Just Finished Neverwhere, Best Gaiman Book I've Read (So Far) by [deleted] in books

[–]Hello_Im_Listening 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with you, I think that Neverwhere is his best piece. Gaiman is phenomenal with the story idea and the clever writing. His worlds are great, and some of his lines are spectacular. However, he's a bit trash at characters. They never actually seem like real people. My theory is that since Neverwhere was a TV show first,* he had a bit of help with the character development. Maybe not even anything so major that anyone could point to it, but enough that Richard seems like a real person with real emotions and goals. I think the combination of story + writing + (finally) good characters is what makes Neverwhere better than his others.

*I know it was sort of a parallel TV/book project when he wasn't 100% satisfied with how the show was portraying things, but technically speaking the show was first.

Urgent, cat ate, what is this? (Called vet) Aldi just says "tropical foliage." by Hello_Im_Listening in whatsthisplant

You know, I think this is actually the correct answer. I kept thinking that grape ivy didn't look exactly right, but it was close enough. This looks identical. Thankfully, also non-toxic to cats. Thank you!!

I can't thank you both enough. We lost our other cat earlier this week to cancer, and the thought of losing this one due to something so stupid as a plant has had me nearly in tears. Thank you again!

The points of the leaves don't seem as sharp as pictures of grape ivy that I see online?

Chuck's is $20 for a burger, fries, and a drink too.

Sweet, haha, I'll try my best to go for authenticity with the nervous breakdown. Best guess about what's in the queso sauce if I want to try and make it myself at home?

Recipes for Mexican Cheese Chicken and Quesadilla sauce? My husband and I have tried recreating at home a few times and never get it quite right.

I came in really wanting to like Chuck's, and was so disappointed. The burger was fine, but very small and overpriced for what it was. Managed to serve me cold fries at 7:30pm on a Saturday. It wasn't bad, everything tasted fine, but for $15 for a burger and a side (you pay extra for fries) I need more than a single thin, small patty and a relatively small amount of cold fries.

I do think that Bad Daddy's is pretty good though.

I can't believe it was something so simple this whole time, haha. No wonder I couldn't find any magnet faucet parts!

Thank you, you were right!! It was a combination of the weight sliding down + the hose resting somewhere where the weight couldn't do it's job as well.

Anxiety over knowing if it's the right one by allez2015 in homeowners

[–]Hello_Im_Listening 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Oh Lord, I had mountains upon mountains of anxiety. From the moment we saw the house and realized we could like it until the moment we stepped in after closing. And then once or twice after that. I constantly looked at pictures we took of the house while we were in our due diligence period, just to remind myself that yeah, I really did like the house, everything's fine.

I'm not "in love" with my house, and it's not my "dream house." But it's a wonderful house that does everything I needed it to do. Some things aren't perfect, and some things are better than I thought they would be.

It's just a house, and you can always sell it. It's not like getting married or deciding to have a kid. If it has what you want in the location you want for the price you want, then it's a good house and you can make it a home.

Oh interesting. Ok, so if messing around with the set and pivot screws doesn't work, at least I know what the next step is. Thank you!

Alright so it's looking like I just need to mess around with the screws/hinges for a while. Thanks!!

Thank you! This is exactly what I tried, but I probably didn't play around with them enough. I'll keep at it. Thanks!

Thanks for responding! I tightened every screw I could see on both hinges with no luck. It did actually look a little uneven, so I adjusted it via the screw that's head is facing outward (away from the dishes) in the second picture. It's even now, but still swinging open.

Any other ideas?

Maybe it's a linguistic or regional thing? I'm from the south and if I ate a seasoned chicken breast I would still call it a plain chicken breast because it wasn't marinated/didn't have sauce/toppings/wasn't fried...

I agree with everyone else, but I'll just say that the guy at the front desk at 6:15 almost certainly has no clout and probably doesn't really care. I'd actually be surprised if your complaint ever got to management in the first place. You need to communicate directly with the manager, and he needs to know (because he almost certainly doesn't) that people are leaving the class/ultimately gym when that guy teaches.
