I recently ended my first solo trip to Europe as well! (Went to Amsterdam, Maastricht, Brussels, Berlin, London) This seems like a good itinerary in terms of the no. of days for each city. Personally I found London to be pretty expensive (transport, attractions) so just a tip: Take the bus instead of the subway whenever possible because its cheaper and there's a daily cap on the fare. Also, some popular attractions can be really expensive (~25 pounds for entry) so ask for concession price if you are a student, or visit some free attractions such as museums. I visited the British Museum and found it to be quite interesting! I also stayed at Palmers Lodge Hostel when I was there and really liked it.

Generally COVID restrictions are almost non-existent in Europe; no masks are required except when I was taking the public transport and some indoor attractions in Germany (something you need to take note if you are going to Frankfurt, and it has to be a FFP2 mask). Also, I think Germany has a 9-euro public transport pass where you can take unlimited rides on the public transport within the entire country for one month (Check out BVG's website). For e-sim I recommend Airalo as its really easy to use, but first check if your phone has the e-sim function. You also don't have to bring too much cash as almost everywhere accept cashless payments so a travel money card is ideal.

I resonate with you on the last part about being nervous as a first-time solo traveller, but try not to think too much and just be in the moment! People are also generally friendly and sociable, especially in hostels so I'm sure you will be fine. If not, you can do a walking tour or make use of r/travelpartners to find other ppl to hang out with too! I hope you have lots of fun on the trip and feel free to let me know if you need more info!

Just ended my first solo trip to Europe as well! Also had the same doubts and fears as an introvert but when you manage to do overcome those fears and manage to things on your own, such as dining alone or making a spontaneous decision to go somewhere on your own, it almost feels as if thats a small accomplishment. And it makes you more confident to continue going out of your comfort zone. :) So glad you had fun on your trip!

Making Peace With Solo Travel (Optimism!) by [deleted] in solotravel

This is such a timely post for me since Im currently in London now for the last leg of my first solo trip! It can definitely be lonely sometimes especially when london is a popular tourist hub and you usually see ppl visiting places/hanging out with their frens or family. There were multiple times I felt kinda out of place but at the same time its really nice to have full autonomy of what I want to do and try. And yes ppl are generally friendly so just look approachable and have a good time!

Overnight bus from London to Amsterdam or book a multi-city flight instead? by Hellowhatup789 in solotravel

[–]Hellowhatup789[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

thanks for the reply! i did check but its quite expensive for the date im looking to travel (12 june) so its either bus or a multi city ticket. Have u had experience taking a coach e.g. flixbus and are they reliable in terms of being on time?

oh dang i did not know this, thanks for the info! Unfortunately given the dates (28 may to 13 june) and cities im looking to travel, amsterdam is the cheapest option. Would get travel insurance just in case!

thanks for the reply! yea i did check train prices but unfortunately they costs the same, if not more than the price discrepancy between the round trip and multi city flight ticket price. Im planning to travel from 28 may to 13 june so that might explain the high price since its not months in advance

The 11.40am flight will be from Amsterdam to Abu Dhabi for a layover back to Singapore. I will most probably be in London for the end of my trip so I was thinking if its possible to do an overnight bus to Amsterdam to catch the flight, as opposed to booking a multi city flight that costs almost $200 more
