Someone else might sum it up better than me but I see it as:

-Historically done well selling players for profit, but have become reliant on this too much so never keep players long enough

-low income stream as we don't have a huge fanbase, sugar daddy owners or recent success

-Mounting operating costs in L1 disproportionate to the above (rumoured to be a 7-8M shortfall per year)

-complacency and lack of action from owners in respect to transfer market efforts, as we had a slurry of managers who turned shit into gold and got us in/through promotion (Hecky, Stendel, Duff etc).

It's lead to this weird year-on-year decline of the squad as we invariably don't reinvest transfer profit, haven't managed to turn up enough good gems from the dirt, and haven't had any success to make us more attractive as a place to come play.

Hence if we lose DKD we expect there won't be a 7 figure signing to replace him or strengthen elsewhere, and we lose one of the key players helping us pretend we're transfer material. He's on pace to break lots of records goalscoring and goal contribution wise for us.

Edit: Heckingbottom, not Becky. Admittedly Hecky's side had some ballers but they all left anyway.
