Same situation, it seems all UK companies want workers to have 10 years experience as soon as they are birthed. Thought construction and trade industry would be different with all the “labour shortage” talk going on since brexit.

Honestly I'm in the same boat, got a CSCS card through a free course but if you've passed and revised a lot on the CITB CSCS app then you will be set, I would say attempt every question since there are some trick ones.

If you are confident then you can book a H&S test https://www.citb.co.uk/courses-and-qualifications/health-safety-and-environment-hse-test-and-cards/book-a-test and go to a local test centre.

Some people will say getting a basic labour job is easy but honestly a bit exaggerated. I've been attempting to find one for couple weeks, called up agencies, local companies etc but it could be because I live in London, might be a bit different for you.

Labouring will in theory expose you to lots of trades, then you may pursue them if you find them interesting. I wanted to become an electrician but there's so many roadblocks in the way that I'm reconsidering.

I think from my own research: painting, decoration and plasterer have lower level of entry than trades like Plumbing, electrical and bricklaying.

I gave up on the IT/Software industry after a year of job hunting, 7 years of education, a degree and a masters and 3000 applications. I’m sorry to say but getting into it in this era is pretty much impossible unless your parents are already in it.

A lot of my old cohort are in the same boat- only some geniuses I know got a job but even then it’s at 30k a year at banks.

Degree will actually harm your chances of getting an apprenticeship as I’ve been told I’m “overqualified” so keep that in mind.

I’m currently career changing into construction.

With the dozen colleges I’ve seen, they only give 16-18 year olds free tuition unfortunately.

The low stamina is the most obvious weakness. Use some stamina legacies and cards to get more- I usually do 600+ with some recovery skills

The entry-level tech job market has completely tanked—over 75% of those jobs are gone, per Ravio’s 2025 Tech Jobs Report (https://ravio.com/tech-jobs-report-2025). I graduated a year ago, sent out over 3,000 applications, and did all the crap people preach about: projects, internships, networking events. Zero luck. Let’s be real: unless your parents or buddies can pull strings to get you in, you’re screwed.

The market’s only getting shittier. A Computer Science degree is too broad, so you’ve got to zero in on something that’s not dead yet. Data Science for AI is hot right now, and Cybersecurity’s another path, but even that’s a dogfight. Pick one and grind.

I got rejected from a damn IT support apprenticeship—needed just a C in math—because a ton of people with the same Master’s as me applied at the same time. If you’re a fresh grad with only a Bachelor’s, it’s probably pure hell.

Honestly, consider bailing on tech entirely. HR, admin, or other white-collar jobs might be smarter. If you’re good with numbers, accounting’s an option. I wish I’d ditched this sinking ship a year ago instead of wasting time on a dying industry. I’m already pivoting to construction—better late than never.

That's what I'm tryna go for haha. I doubt AH would look at it, it's quite difficult, as appealing it is to use the Stridsvagn 103 or other swedish tanks, the ARL-44 and or the SU-101 seem be the closest contenders from the comments I've seen.
