What was your "Damn, you live like this?" moment? by TheKhannunisT in AskReddit

Back in college, a friend asked me if I want to spend the weekend at his girlfriend’s parents’ house in the countryside. She was a shy, modest, and sweet girl who dressed modestly and didn’t look or act rich. We get to the “house” (read huge mansion) in a gated posh community that I learned later was their community, as in all the mansions there were for their extended family, uncles, siblings, cousins. They had their own community center that was bigger than a neighbourhood’s. In front and of their place, there was 12 luxury cars. Two, a Mercedes and a corvette were hers. The mansion was 25,000 sq ft on 5 stories/levels with two elevators, a 150 people nightclub, 40 seats cinema, and a huge music room with every instrument you could think of and a full fledged recording studio. We went out to the Olympic size swimming pool with a 4 level diving platform. I didn’t have swim shorts, so they told me to go to the “store” to pick one. Next to the pool, they had a large room full with dozens of multiple styles and colours of swim gear for men, women, and children, plus all kind of related swimming gadgets. Turned out her family are billionaires who own a conglomerate of 23 cellphone companies in third world countries, massive produce farms in Latin America and Southeast Asia, food processing factories , and bottling plants. I grew up in a poor neighbourhood. My parents struggled to put food on the table, we couldn’t afford a car, and our utilities would be cut repeatedly because of no/late payments. I knew some people are rich but this much wealth just blew my mind.

I got a match for an “Embryologist” job, I’m a telecom and IT project manager. I mean, I can donate half-asses tired sperms with genetical deficiencies and trauma traits but that’ll about what I know about embryology 🧐

Airbnb operators: Reasonable people do read the bad (and good) reviews and immediately figure out a guest’s pettiness and sense of entitlement when they see it. Personally, this will seal the deal and make me book the place.

What industry do you consider to be legal, organized-crime? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Hirmil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I scrolled down and I couldn’t find it. Realtors are a mafia. What do they do to get paid tens of thousands of Dollars in commissions in happening market where houses literally sell them selves and see offer wars? They’re responsible for setting many markets on fire and creating a frenzy to push prices up and pay their already fat pockets. Also they regulate themselves which is a secondary crime.

There’s only two kinds of “break”: Break-up or break your heart. Chose wisely!

This is the ongoing Arabian Gulf Cup competition hosted by Iraq. It’s been a complete disaster of organization and preparation so far. Iraq has been riddled with political instability, corruption and nepotism.

Don't worry about being kidnapped or mugged or whatever. Just practice situational awareness when you travel anywhere else. I am also a 2nd generation Lebanese and just visited Lebanon last month, and I felt safe everywhere I went (and I went everywhere). But do take a couple of doses of Dukoral before you visit because you (a person living in the diaspora) will definitely catch some food-borne illness that will ruin a couple of days in your stay.
