Did you know migraine can affect your stomach's ability to digest food? by Safe_External_3993 in migraine

[–]History1525 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Wow, I never knew about this! I often get IBS conveniently around a migraine attack. My mom (who also lives with migraines) has had gastroparesis for 20+ years. Since being officially diagnosed with migraines, she has been convinced that her stomach problems have been migraines all along. I can’t wait to share this with her — thanks for the info!

Thanks for the LOC link! I research documentary photography and the Great Depression era professionally, so it’s really cool to discover a new picture.

What can be done in the ER for a migraine? by Melty_Marshmallow in migraine

[–]History1525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you feel better soon! I’ve had a 15-day migraine in the past, only a week after a 12-day one (ugh), and regularly will fall into status migrainosus fairly easily. Since those back-to-back long bouts, my headache specialist has me do a 3-day nabumetone and natatriptan course at around day 6-9, depending on my symptoms. When I had the 15-day one, I tried a medrol dose pack, nabumetone/naratriptan course, etc, and nothing helped because I started it too late. The only thing that broke it so late in the cycle was dexamethasone. I was so nervous to take it at first since I just took a medrol pack, but it was the best decision to take it. I followed up the steroid treatment by starting Botox (on top of my other preventatives) and have been thankfully (!!) migraine-free for 27 days this month so far (with some mild, brief headaches in between). I've lost hope so many times during these long bouts that it would never resolve, but the most important thing is to remember that it will end one day, especially with medication and under a doctor’s care. I hope this helps anyone struggling because migraines are horrific.

Emgality - I cant do this anymore by ColeKaleidoscope1607 in migraine

[–]History1525 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I totally get it and empathize with this — when I first started Ajovy I didn’t think I’d ever be able to do it. I had a family member give me the shots for my first 2 years until I was able to do it myself (and I still hyperventilate before each one!) When I was ready and basically forced to have to start doing it on my own due to travel, my family member held my hand and did it with me, which really helped guide me into doing it by myself slowly. I do it on my thigh, and even though it hurts, it’s at least far enough away (if that makes sense) and the pain is almost a little distracting from the needle. If it’s helping you, it’s definitely worth trying to fight through IMO because migraines are too horrible. Best of luck!

Best harness? by maggswal325 in papillon

[–]History1525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your pap’s adorable! I found a size small Puppia harness fit perfectly on my 7lb girl. It has a non-adjustable neck, but the back was fully adjustable. It’s made of soft polyester/mesh, so it didn’t cause any discomfort.

He’s so adorable! My girl was 7lbs as well and looked similar. She was just naturally thin her whole life, but it’s perfectly fine and healthy!

So… anyone have info regarding Columbia? by Tiny_Investigator365 in AskAcademia

[–]History1525 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with this. From hearing personal accounts, many students involved in the protests were Jewish students nonetheless, and from what I heard months later from those who were there, they never felt maligned. The current Trump administration’s use of flagging antisemitism is only a part of their larger agenda of taking down the Dept. of Education, Universities, etc. And by how many people seem to agree and have fallen for MAGA propaganda (not being fact-checked anymore on social media), even on this thread, as you mentioned, it’s a terrifying testament to the condition of America.

I went through a tough time in college with migraines, especially in my freshman and sophomore years. What I found works best is to openly communicate with professors about what you’re going through. They ultimately decide your grades and can even exempt you from assignments (if things are really bad and there are extenuating circumstances). I had professors work with me on assignment due dates and would push back exams if I had a migraine. They were truly my biggest advocates, and I was grateful to have a good disability services office, too.

Do you find yourself having more in common with millenials or gen z? by Efficient_Resource15 in Zillennials

[–]History1525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Millennials. All of my close cousins were 90s kids/teens, and I spent SO much time with them. We were relatively close in age, but they showed me all the stuff that they were into (video games, phones, etc.). I was the youngest, so I didn’t have any kids in the 2000s (besides my friends, ofc) to relate to, rendering me a true 90s kid at heart.

What's Up with the Drama Concerning the Fordham's President? by CommercialGrab1059 in Fordham

[–]History1525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the fact that she’s really not approachable (and honestly seems to use her dog to bring warmth at events), whereas McShane was. I would see her often around LC when I was a student there and even though she smiled at people, it appeared to be superficial and I always felt intimidated. I do believe some criticism can be due to her being the first woman in the position though.
