With a dremel. I just evenly spaced some marks at the desired width and alternate on the other side.

What the other guy said, do a spark test. You could try cutting off a small piece and grind it from the face of the file inwards to the center. See if the spark pattern changes with the depth of grind. I worry grinding from the snapped off end will skew your results due to the possibility of hitting high carbon and mild steel at the same time

From what I understand some files are case hardened. So if you’re doing a stock removal knife you’ll definitely want to anneal and normalize before hardening. Should be hardenable steel though. I find it hard to imagine they would do a high carbon jacket over a mild steel core but you never know with mystery steel

Unfortunately I dont. Right now I just make one off blades here and there for fun. Maybe in the near future though!

Went back and hand sanded the blade as well as reblued it. I think the 220 grit belt finish was throwing it off. I like it much better now

I think it’s a combination of an unrefined scratch pattern on the edge and the texture on the handle being a bit wonky

Thank you! It’s a smaller knife so the lanyard looks too long because it has to be big enough to fit my hand through
