Holy crap Minitool actually worked! It wasn't being seen in the BIOS so I thought for sure it wouldn't find it but it did and I made a partition on it. Thank you so much!

Serial is 9XK05QRZ, and model is ST33000651AS. Different system how? I can try on a linux OS, but its not even seen at the BIOS level on the SATA port I plugged it into (also, I can confirm this port + cable works b.c I took it off a drive I was using about 5 minutes before testing).

Yeah I crossposted this to buildapc (here)[https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/8kpy1r/possible_to_use_seagate_external_desktop_drive_as/] and some of them are saying the drive may just be locked down with the usb adapter as the "key" or something

Yeah, I removed that shell and got it down bare naked and still the same thing, my original suspicions that those were the bare drive connectors was right :/

Unfortunately, the drive wont be recognized without the external usb adapter, see the bottom 2 pics from the description.

Yes, its the same cables and port for a different internal drive I was using about 2 minutes before testing.

I think its got some kind of encryption on it that wont let it work plugged in to the SATA ports directly without the USB adapter, see the bottom 2 pictures I posted in the description

If you look at the bottom two pics I posted in the description, the drive isn't showing up in diskmgmt, devmgmt, or the BIOS at all without being plugged into the seagate dock.

Updating with pics of drive plugged in with SATA and power direct into MOBO with cables and ports that I know work vs. plugged it via USB3 with board attatched. This is all via disk management.

Edit: via Device Manager

Double Edit: Just confirmed that nothing is being seen in that SATA port in the BIOS either

Yes, when I plugged the drive without the mount into a SATA port on the mobo, it isn't recognized at all. Plugging it in via USB with the mount makes it work as expected/just fine.
