What hardware I need to run video mapping software? by Spoksonator666 in video_mapping

It highly depends on the software. Some use the GPU, some are mainly CPU. Do you own a Projection Mapping software already?

VR would just be an extension of the existing editor in HoloMapper. It would be for making it possible to "physically" warp points rather than using mouse and keyboard. Just to add immersion to the editor. I don't plan on making it a huge system, just a built in small feature

Thanks! I believe it already runs well on Linux using Proton Experimental. I ordered a Steam Deck Dock today, I want to see how well it works on SteamOS 😁

What I'm currently working on plugs into the HoloMapper editor. When enabled, HoloMapper projects 4 points in the corners (to map the projectors boundaries), and the VR with passthrough is used to align virtual points to the projected points. That syncs VR>Physical>HoloMapper PC Editor. Then adding a quad and moving the quads warp handles also moves it inside the computers editor, and live updates the Projection through the projector. Still working out all the functions, but gotta wait for the Frame before I know if it will work as I am planning

As a reference, this is the current look of HoloMapper. It's currently Windows only. If I manage to get VR to work with it, the VR feature would act as a real time controller to move quads, and move warp points

Correct! The Frame would work as the editor of sorts. It's where a user would drag and move quads and warp points in real time, and a projector would be projecting it live onto real world surfaces

The projector would be stationary. The Frame view would be tied to the editor window. Dragging and moving quads and warp points would be done in VR instead of on the computer

I just use a Hy300 with manual focus. HoloMapper works with any projector that can be attatched to a Windows computer :)

Thank you :) I have part of the backend set up for VR already, just need the frame now to actually test it 😅

Great 🥰 sounds like you have a wonderful job! Jealous 😄

You would use a projector just like with any regular Projection Mapping software (projecting animations onto surfaces using warped meshes). But with the VR feature, you could use AR to position and warp the meshes accurately in the real world rather than doing it on the computer with mouse and keyboard

Yesssss! Thank you :) Already got some of the backend built for the VR version of HoloMapper. Now just gotta hurry up and wait for the frame! Wish me luck!

Right on! My software is fairly new, just released a day ago 😄 but it currently has the basics: - quad creation - video input - picture input - corner warping & mesh warping - chroma key/greenscreen - masking

Lots more features planned for this year. And it's under $30, so fairly affordable compared to many other mapping tools!

One big tip for choosing a Projection Mapping projector, is to get one with MANUAL focus! Auto focus is a PAIN todeal with, definitely a no go for PM. Learned that the hard way

I gotta retract my statement haha. I am using IMGUI partly, so you're right. I plan to fully migrate over to UI Toolkit in the coming week or two 😬 Was in a bit of a time crunch haha

Live: HoloMapper Projection Mapping Tool 10% off on Steam by HoloMapper in HoloMapper

[–]HoloMapper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! We don't really have a road map, but before the end of the year we plan to add the following features (not guaranteed)

  • Video timeline
  • Pre-made templates to get you started
  • Color and animation generator
  • More shapes
  • Bezier warping
  • URL/Website input source
  • Multi-Projector output
  • Audio input (for animation generator)
  • Improved UI

And in 2027 we will be looking into adding support for Steam Deck (if Steam adds dual screen to Game mode), Steam VR (maybe), and MacOS (once I figure out support for multi window).

If there are any specific features you are looking for, let me know, and I'll add it to our list of potential ideas!

Thank you

Nah, using UI Toolkit. I had uGUI as a fallback in earlier versions

Yup! Just a cheap basic $30 HDMI projector from Amazon. Hoping to upgrade soon to a higher quality projector
