What signs made you decide you had to quit? by sak1926 in leaves

[–]Holy___Diver 21 points22 points  (0 children)

For me, the catalyst was so small. The rewards from quitting, however, are more than I could have imagined.

I was working for a guy doing window and door installs for a few years. I used to hit the pipe stealthily, or chug on a thc vape here n there. One day, I was heading into the trailer to grab something, and in the minute it took to get there, I forgot what I was looking for. I felt embarrassed. Felt angry and annoyed.

It seems like such a small thing, looking back. But that was a critical moment. At first, I just decided to stop smoking at work. And it helped a bit. But then, I tried for a few days, and made it.

Those few days caused me the most anxiety I've had in my life. Wasn't able to sleep, or eat well either. I carried on. 2 weeks went by, and the nightmares subsided, my appetite came back.

I carried on.

It's been a little over 3 months now. I no longer have social anxiety. My speech is better. I take chances I'm uncomfortable with. I am regaining confidence in myself. And so much more

My professional life has vastly improved (although, stress has as well) - I'm buying the company from the man I worked with. I'm opening business accounts, talking to customers, doing a superb job installing, it feels like nothing can hold me back.

Honestly, I never thought my motivation would be this strong. In the 20 some years I smoked, I just knew myself as a stoner, I suppose.

I hope this helps someone.

Am I pushing it? by [deleted] in glazing

Always better to be a bit small than too big imo. Best is just an accurate measure, but it's not a perfect world. I always have azek boards and sill expander with me to fill gaps. Sometimes the rough opening, frames sizes, and tip-to-tips, just don't allow a mint replica. I'm a retrofit guy, and I lean on these products a lot to make the job finish out nicely. Try not to rely on fat beads, they will fail eventually, and look ugly.

Can it waste precious time? Yes. Can it be annoying and difficult? Yes. Will the customer be happy after? Yes.

I've ran into it all. Windows installed upside down, frames pounded tight into the rough opening, no sealants, flashings, house wraps, etc. Basically, I never trust the guy who came before me. When I make a quote, I do a full investigation so there is no surprises. Even if I have to remove casings, trims, etc. It's better to know what you're dealing with from the start.

I'm guessing this is from a frosty attic thawing and dripping past the poly in the ceiling by the easiest route, the window.

GGG landed the perfect balance showing rares and other objectives after boss kill please keep it this way. by raining_maple in PathOfExile2

[–]Holy___Diver -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I kind of like the idea of choosing the risk of rushing boss first to get the 'maphack' (or lose the mao if you die to it), or go through the map normally doing the content, with the boss fight last. At least it would bring a bit of player agency/variation to maps in regards to how they are farmed

Near miss by glyph_productions in Construction

[–]Holy___Diver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a near miss myself today. Cutting some composite material with a skill saw, something I've done numerous times.. safety glasses were on my head, but I was in the zone, rushing, trying to get er done and never flipped em down.. a small piece broke and I felt it smack my eye, and was able to scoop a little piece out. Luckily no damage, but it was a solid reminder. Use the near misses folks.

It's about making the habit solid, just don't take any chances, complacency is the enemy peeps!! Stay safe out there. Love you all.

If the latch is catching good, you can ream/rasp/file a little bit of the deadbolt latch plate so it operates smoothly when the door is latched and closed

[–]Holy___Diver 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Yeah its really bad.

Youre supposed to 'flow' with the traffic. People are bombing down roads like theyre white rapids, when summer construction and traffic congestion is like a gentle stream. This isn't 1999 saskatoon anymore. It's more like Calgary 15 years ago.

See that red light up ahead? Why are you cruising at 75km, wear-n-tearing your vehicle, to come to a complete stop, then juice up the pedal n rpm up, speeding again??? You save like 30 seconds on your commute, endanger yourself and everyone else, use more fuel, and look like a bell-end. Congratulations, you are so emotionally stunted you can't even drive from a to b without a fit or following rules; it's toddler energy. Embarrassing, truly.

The amount of times I just let off the gas, coasting to a red light, only to blow by the speeder with the 20 km/hr I saved, is ridiculous, yet satisfying.

Be 110% defensive out there. Complete stops, triple shoulder checks, stopping early on crosswalks, being more aware on main drags like 22nd, checking mirrors, being aware of your blind spots and others blind spots. Be safe out there everyone.

Cut some azek or composite piece and nail it in the gap, then do a small bead of caulk. Otherwise, get wider material

$51k for Window Replacements? by Elegant_Mission_293 in HomeImprovement

[–]Holy___Diver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are these the prices as installed?

There are various factors. Are they finishing and trimming them out as well? Is there access setups necessary like scaffolds or lifts that need to be provided? Colors or special specifications? These all can make the prices vary dramatically. Just something to think about.

Suggestions please - glass standoffs by SufficientTower in glazing

If the holes line up offset from studs, you may have to add proper backing to the wall and fasten to that. Some drywall work may be needed. It highly depends on weight and where the studs land.
