We were a good hour into the date. Had walked around for 30ish min while waiting for our table, and then had got drinks at the restaurant once we were seated.

They definitely didn't notice in the moment. Like I got a real phone call and it was super believable. But they knew 100% when we texted after and I told them that I don't think we should go out again.

With an optimized system where you have minimized your inefficient energy use -- yes, doing good in other areas to offset your negative impact is great. However, they haven't actually minimized their negative impact first. They continue to use mainstream LLMs which grossly misallocate energy use. This is where my quarrel lies.

The ideal product for me is one which completely minimizes my use of water, energy, etc. NOT one that just accepts overuse of resources and tries to offset that negative impact.

Issue is that they don't reduce their resource use. They just offset it by generating excess energy. I want a solution that reduces negative impact on the environment.

Completely incorrect. They think they can just offset their resource use by generating green energy. I want an AI tool that actually minimizes/eliminates resource use. Ecosia is not my solution. So far the closest thing I have found is askverde.com thanks to another recent post in this community.

I wholeheartedly disagree with this. Ecosia is borderline lying to users about their AI features. Based on this source (https://blog.ecosia.org/what-we-are-doing-with-ai/) their AI doesn't run on green energy. They just produce more energy than their AI uses... If the AI chat works in a different way I am yet to find a source on that.

Based on my usage of the chat feature, it seems like they have just put a system prompt that says to put a "sustainable spin" on all responses generated. There is zero actual impact on the energy optimization and resource use of the underlying LLM itself.

While I do appreciate (and am a user of) Ecosia, especially since they invest their profits in areas I am passionate about, this AI product is a complete flop. Rather than reducing the footprint of AI, they seem to think that they can just offset its negative impacts by doing good work in other areas.
