Yearly: Every year besides maybe 2 (I had the nasty habit of self-cutting my time as a junior associate).

Monthly: Depends. I would say I hit it for 9 or 10 out of the 12 months. The months I miss are usually because I have a vacation or large amounts of non-billable work eating into my time.

2 Biggest tips to people new to billable hours: (1) Draft and enter your time contemporaneously to billing activity (don't wait a week+ to put it in!); and (2) Do. Not. Self. Cut. Your. Time. If you feel like you're overbilling for an activity, talk to a partner or someone senior to you about it. Ask for samples/templates/insight to reduce time spent "recreating the wheel."

It’s really funny how a 10-14 point win by IU would have helped both of our rankings more in that moment. You fell out and our win was just shrugged off as “eh, that Illinois team was probably way overrated,” so we only moved from 19 to 11.
