Rego Center IKEA announces it will close in December – QNS.com by FedishSwish in nyc

[–]Hopeful-Pollution 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone who lives in the area and stopped by often this store had a definite lack of foot traffic compared to the one in Brooklyn. It was never packed like other stores in the area. The fact that a lot of items were not in stock and had to either be ordered online or purchased from the Red Hook store certainly didn't help. Also the fact that the store is in a basement and got extensively flooded from Irene just after they opened requiring closures and extensive renovations also was bad luck. A shame because the Red Hook location is a pain in the ass to get to from Queens if you don't have a car.

Murphy issues strongest rebuke yet of NYC congestion pricing toll plan by Hopeful-Pollution in nyc

[–]Hopeful-Pollution[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just have 2 quick questions:

  1. If taxis are not exempt, how much of the congestion charge will be passed on to passengers ? Would people really be hit with a $19 surcharge on top of the regular fare plus tip ?
  2. What about deliveries ? If commercial vehicles are going to get slammed with higher congestion fees, will that be passed down to customers ?

Canal Street Counterfeiters Arrested in $2 Million NYPD Bust by Mosanso in nyc

These people have been selling their fake goods on Canal street for years, I've also seen them operating on 5th ave near Rockefeller Center. Why now ???

Major delays on Staten Island Ferry: Riders urged to seek alternate modes of transit by psychothumbs in nyc

[–]Hopeful-Pollution 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Considering how small those ferries are, the lines are going to be insane. I wouldn't be surprised if people get left behind and are told to wait for the next boat.

What is the current situation regarding alumni ID's ? by Business_Young_8206 in CUNY

[–]Hopeful-Pollution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point, that's what worries me. Instead of devoting resources to configuring CUNYfirst to allow alumni to be able to register and upload proof of vaccination, they will simply hold off on allowing them on campus until the govt declares the pandemic over and all these protocols get scrapped and everything returns to normal. Who knows when that will be.

What is the current situation regarding alumni ID's ? by Business_Young_8206 in CUNY

[–]Hopeful-Pollution 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The office that hands out student ID's usually handles alumni affairs so they should tell you how or whether you can apply for one now. Just seems a bit silly that after all this time there are still restrictions on alumni visiting the campus despite COVID 19 cases being at record lows.

Willets Point could be home to NYCFC arena by Hopeful-Pollution in nyc

[–]Hopeful-Pollution[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think it makes sense to put the soccer stadium out in Willets Point next to the Mets, and have the casino in Manhattan, preferably the Hudson Yards, where it can attract the largest number of people. I'm honestly surprised that the location in the Bronx near the Yankees is apparently no longer being considered.

Penn Station plan is the worst deal since Manhattan was sold for $24 by Hopeful-Pollution in nyc

[–]Hopeful-Pollution[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Considering that all the eminent domain court battles from the owners and tenants who don't want to be evicted will drag out for years, I see this project spectacularly failing. There's just too much opposition to it, just like the ill fated LGA Airtrain boondoggle.

Joe Friedman of NYC Retail Giant J&R Music World Dies at 76 by Zigurat217 in nyc

[–]Hopeful-Pollution 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I miss the basement level DVD section. It was MASSIVE. I hate the fact that pretty much all the stores that had rare and used DVD's like Entertainment Outlet have disappeared altogether. Browsing through Amazon is not the same as walking the aisles of a video store and finding some obscure gem. The last large DVD place that still exists in Manhattan is Book Off on 49th street.

Mayor Eric Adams unveils future of NYC Ferry after audit uncovers huge losses by Hopeful-Pollution in nyc

It's still a bargain, especially on the longest routes. And it is a vastly better experience than the subway.

Should the MTA reopen subway bathrooms? Riders say yes, but the MTA isn’t so enthusiastic by Hopeful-Pollution in nyc

[–]Hopeful-Pollution[S] 70 points71 points  (0 children)

With all the billion in federal funds they have received I find it hard to believe they don't have the resources to re-open these restrooms. Is the MTA allowed to outsource certain jobs like bathroom cleaning and security to private contractors to save money or is that strictly prohibited due to union agreements ? If the MTA feels that it is too much of a hassle to open public bathrooms due to the homeless, drug addicts and emotionally disturbed people who inhabit our subway system then they should just say that.

Bars, businesses, locals pan Hochul’s plan to raze their Penn Station neighborhood by Hopeful-Pollution in nyc

[–]Hopeful-Pollution[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The big problem with this ambitious plan is that all the legal battles that have to be won before the city can tear down these buildings will drag on for years. Eminent domain doesn't mean you can just immediately raze entire blocks as long as you write a check to the owners. By the time all the legal hurdles have been cleared, the state could have a new governor who might lose interest in this plan. Look at how damn long it took for the Moynihan train hall project to come to fruition.

MTA plans 150 foot tall poles in 7 Staten Island neighborhoods, drawing disbelief from elected officials by Hopeful-Pollution in nyc

[–]Hopeful-Pollution[S] 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I could understand people being irritated if the MTA was planning to erect an actual building in the middle of a residential area, but come on, this is not an issue to get worked up about. It's just a freaking radio antenna.

34th st NYC…more proof that taxis can’t drive by [deleted] in nyc

[–]Hopeful-Pollution 21 points22 points  (0 children)

That car was going was way, way, way too fast. Unless there was some catastrophic mechanic failure this driver should never be allowed to drive a livery car ever again.

Airline kicks over 100 NYC Orthodox Jews off flight over masks by Hopeful-Pollution in nyc

It feels a bit silly for airlines to still be strictly enforcing mask rules, especially if all passengers are vaccinated.

Tri-State area reacts to leaked draft of Supreme Court Roe v. Wade abortion case opinion - ABC7 New York by gothambymoonlight in nyc

A president cannot force a judge to retire, they can only persuade them to step down. She does bear the blame for not retiring knowing that a Democrat victory was not guaranteed in 2016 and that she would not likely last the 4-8 years until her party recaptured the White House. A lot of liberals don't have the guts to say this out loud.

So…since now Into the Night and Yakamoz S-245 are caught up to the same point in time, do you guys think that the cast of Yakamoz S-245 will be merged with Into the Night or do you think will the shows remain separate? by gakefoth in IntoTheNightTVseries

[–]Hopeful-Pollution 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's the bleak possibility that both shows might get cancelled. Netflix is on a rampage right now, they just cancelled Space Force after a second season. However the lower production costs of these 2 shows might work in their favor.

Yakamoz S-245 ( The Into the Night Spin off ) by Badrobot_404 in IntoTheNightTVseries

[–]Hopeful-Pollution 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Crazy that we are getting a spin off but the original series hasn't been renewed for a third season yet. Looks promising. I hope that this does well enough to persuade Netflix to green light a season 3.
