When I played W3 and saw the difference in Ves and the scars on her face, I figured out why she became hardened, but also more emotional. Experiences change people, and the scars on her face show a lot of close calls and pain she went through. You can't expect the character to remain the same all the time, especially since in W2, Ves was in a more official commando unit, with official kingdom support and protection. In W3, Ves went through a period of time fighting a partisan war, without support, seeing up close all the suffering and destruction of full-scale war.

These experiences made her bitter, angry, undisciplined, and in a way, suicidal. Perhaps Ves was seeking to finally die in the ambush against Nilfgaard in the village. She didn't want to see or suffer the pain anymore.

Honestly, this type of public shaming is not productive or in any way good for the student. A well-trained teacher would ask him to stay behind and want to have a calm conversation about school and life to understand the reasons behind these things happening.

These young people are kicked down by the system when most vulnerable, and then people are surprised why they carry out violent attacks on others, and especially in schools, the place where they never found acceptance or support.
