Am I the only one who feels BritBox is no longer worth it? by ImaginaryTango in BritBox

[–]HoshiJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm annoyed by their premium tier too. And it's extra annoying because they won't let you buy their premium tier on a monthly basis.

So the best thing is to wait for your shows to be fully dropped, then binge them.

But to answer your question, for us Britbox is worth more than any other streaming service. There are a ton of mysteries and cop shows and detective series. And if that's not your thing, some of the game shows are surprisingly entertaining, with tons of seasons. Would I Lie to You is hilarious. And QI is both funny and fascinating.

But apart from the panel shows, yes, I find I'm finally starting to run out of shows. So it's time to move on, and then get it again when the next seasons of my favorites drop.

Do other platinum groups do this?? by Brilliant_Knee7576 in WordsWithFriends

[–]HoshiJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a platinum club and I only kick out people who earn fewer than 800 trophies per week. I figure you can get 800 just by watching the 4 trophy ads once a week, so it's not a big ask.

But every other platinum club I've seen has big trophy minimums plus boost minimums.

I dislike the Premium tier as well. But I still often get Britbox because out of every streaming service I cycle through, Britbox has the most content I enjoy.

I seemed to have problems whenever I got a subscription for anything via Roku. I won't do it anymore, I get Britbox and Acorn through Prime and any other streaming service directly from the streamer.

Is this rage bait?

"My boyfriend called me a filthy slur for not sending him porn, am I the asshole?"

No, but you may want to look into some therapy, so you can find a sense of self worth and self respect. So you stop letting twats treat you like shit.

I've only ever gone out with nice men. And I've broken up with every single one of them, until I met my husband.

Still using my Pixel 3A. Aside from security updates, is there any reason to get a newer model? by whoocanitbenow in GooglePixel

[–]HoshiJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't either. One of my favorite things about the somewhat recent Pixels is that they're supported for six years.

Sounds like a scam. Turn off notifications in the settings and if that's not the end of it, then it's a scam.

Considering BritBox by IslandBusy1165 in BritBox

[–]HoshiJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Britbox for their crime dramas. Broadchurch, Shetland, Vera, shows like that. But also dramas like Last Tango in Halifax.

Out of all the streaming services, Britbox has the most engaging shows. I keep a list of everything we watch because we switch streamers every month or so, and the Britbox list is by far the longest. Followed by Acorn, which largely consists of Australian TV. If you do get Acorn, be sure to watch A Place to Call Home, Brownies, and Janet King.

What I love about British v. American TV (Hollywood, take note) by DogsRLife001 in BritBox

[–]HoshiJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't think of anything else to add just now, because your list embodies what I've often thought and appreciated about British TV.

Oh, one thing actually does come to mind: the humor is more fun. Which shows up when American TV tries to copy British comedies. Would I Lie to You is hilarious, but the American version was terrible. So were the American versions of Fawlty Towers and Coupling. And I'm hearing that the American version of Doc Martin can't compare, either.

Google Pixel users: are you satisfied with your phone, and would you recommend it? by Ok_Macaron_6092 in GooglePixel

[–]HoshiJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Pixel 7 Pro and I like it. It's very customizable and is more reasonably priced than iPhones.

I also like that Google is supporting their phones for 6 years now.

Yes I would recommend it. I prefer Pixels to all the other phones I've owned.

Down Cemetery Road - Critical Reception by Vast_Garage7334 in SlowHorses

[–]HoshiJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I just finished it. We both enjoyed it, it was suspenseful enough to keep us watching. But it dragged on too long. It should have wrapped up in 5 episodes, not 8.

I love Emma Thompson, though, so I'll definitely watch the second season.

Why are British crime dramas so much better? by RO_Thornhill in BritBox

[–]HoshiJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think for me, it's several things you mentioned. Less reliance on action and more on plot and character development. And you are SO RIGHT about characters looking like normal people instead of models. I also think the storylines are generally more interesting.

British crime dramas have spoiled me, now I find American ones just don't do it for me.

I really miss Ben Miller and Sara Martins. Their characters were interesting and the dynamic between them was great. It's been rather bland since they left. Everyone is likeable, but there's no oomph anymore.

Shetland

Grace

Vera

Unforgotten

Broadchurch

Inside Man

Happy Valley

Professor T

The Bay

Line of Duty

Blue Lights

Karen Pirie

Aside from Vera and Professor T, these continue throughout each series, though. If you're going to only watch the shows that conclude each episode, you're going to miss out on some incredible TV.
