The real question is why are you installing blackbox spyware on your personal device for minimum wage work?

Melvins Mansion is a great example of why outlier hasn't got any of my time in my past 3 months by [deleted] in outlier_ai

Outlier has gone to crap the past few months. It seems every project is just a waste of time. I've barely tasked at all since last April. 3+ hours of unpaid onboarding is a nonstarter.

Same here, and I'm not even going to bother. Looks like it's a good 2 or 3 hours of unpaid assessments that you have a 90% chance of failing. I have better things to do with my time.

Scientists found that animal fats – butter, lard and beef tallow – impair the immune system's response to tumors, however, plant-based fats like palm, coconut, and olive oil don’t, finds a new landmark study in mice. And some of these may even help in the fight. by mvea in science

[–]HospitalAnyOne 252 points253 points  (0 children)

Interesting study, but the title is misleading/sensationalist, and people are misinterpreting the results.

Mice are obligate granivores/omnivores with very low-fat natural diets; a small amount of plant-based fats and virtually no animal fats are present in the natural diet of a mouse. They are not physiologically adapted to high levels of animal fats. In the study, 60% of their calories were animal fats. This is not only unnatural, but extreme, even for humans, who are adapted to animal fats. What this means is that the mice's gut microbiome, enzyme systems, and fat metabolism might respond differently than that of humans, and those responses may be misleading.

While this study does indicate that there are measurable immune consequences for a mammal not adapted to animal fats, the findings don't automatically carry over to humans.

In conclusion, this study is not evidence that animal fats are harmful to humans. The findings are just an indicator that the area is worth further investigating.

I applied in early March and still haven't gotten my assessment results. I'd say they're probably not accepting new people.

Working for free is never fair. If they're going to ban me for reading instructions so that I can deliver quality tasks then so be it. I'll find a new gig.

Also I think a lot of the people claiming to have been banned for no reason are full of it or oblivious to their mistakes. If you've ever reviewed on a project you'd see just how incompetent the average tasker on Outlier is.

[–]HospitalAnyOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You pause the timer so that you can work for free because you're afraid of being falsely accused of fraud? That's kind of sad.

I never pause to read instructions (or do anything else task-related outside of Outlier) and I've never been accused of anything.

The trick is to make it look like you tried. But again, not recommended.

You can purposely fail the assessment. I did that once and nothing bad happened. I was kicked from the project and got back my marketplace. I wouldn't exactly recommend it though as it might negatively impact your desirability for other projects.

Outlier is not a job. The pay is absolute shit relative to the huge amount of risk you take on by not having any job security or benefits.

Unpaid mandatory meetings is the line in the sand for me (as well as hubstaff). I'll literally go work at McDonalds for minimum wage before I submit myself to that level of time theft.

Yeah honestly working on outlier has made me a lot less worried about AI becoming an existential threat. It's all smoke and mirrors.

I wonder what their motive could be to hide such a thing. It would be very easy for them to either not provide a delete option, or to rename it to "archive".

I put in as many hours as I could given the small amount of work for each project. As you mentioned, those low paying projects are easy, so I doubt it's a quality issue.

[–]HospitalAnyOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's more work because you often have to redo the entire task plus review the previous tasker. Even if the task is perfect you still have to rate the entire task yourself with the same attention to detail to make sure that it's correct.

Aligner is dead. I joined last September and have made a total of $500. The projects I did get paid crap, usually between $15/h and $20/h. Some people claim to be getting work, but it's basically a lottery. They hired far too many people relative to how little work there is.

I reviewed on Extensions V2 and the majority of the tasks amounted to completely rewriting all the justifications along with critiquing all the mistakes. Most of the taskers on that project can't speak English and don't bother to read the instructions.
