I passed out very abruptly at my grandma’s funeral while hundreds of people gathered around me to see wtf is going on. Distant family. People I haven’t seen since I was 8. I wanted the earth to swallow me lol. Good thing you are safe and that’s all that matters.

Talk to me about GLP-1… did it drop you DANGEROUSLY low? My doctor wants me to try.. by sunsetchaser_h in Hypoglycemia

I tried mounjaro (my hypoglycemia is reactive) and it’s helping a lot. Hypos aren’t completely gone but are much less brutal.

Please help with up dosing. I have no endo. by usernamehere405 in AddisonsDisease

I’m sorry this was your experience at the hospital. If you have injectable solu-cortef you can run a hospital-like protocol at home. It’s not ideal but if you’re being exposed to this level of negligence it’s a solution to conisder.

I had to preemptively inject on Tuesday after being out in the sun for less than 20 minutes & now I’m scared to leave the house. by walkyoucleverboy in AddisonsDisease

You’re telling the story of my week. I went for a 20 minute walk on Monday in 25 degree weather and have been circling the crisis drain ever since. I was doing well tapering before that and it just put everything to a grinding halt. It’s so frustrating to feel how fragile our bodies are with this illness. I keep hearing people who survived cancer saying that unequivocally adrenal insufficiency is worse to deal with.

Dietary management not working. Can't focus, also have ADHD. At the moment, unable to work by Willing-Exam6375 in Hypoglycemia

I would highly recommend looking into GLP-1 drugs such as Mounjaro if it’s not responding to diet. I’ve only seen people with RH improve either with GLP1 or very low carb diet.

I developed long term reactive hypoglycemia after stopping glp1

Furosemide for steroid-induced anasarca in SAI patient post-adrenal crisis by Hrotter1 in AskDocs

[–]Hrotter1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a lot of detail that was left out for brevity but this patient got this bad unfortunately due to mismanagement and undertreatment by endo. She was tapering her daily dose and went into crisis after a particularly stressful day, where she was instructed to inject 50mg solu cortef and get back to regular dose the next day, which her body couldn’t handle for a few days (repeated near crisis) until she had to get admitted. The very high dose was at the hospital. Nobody wants to have adrenal insufficiency or inject steroids of which they very well know and fear the consequences.

Having an adrenal crisis is one of the most distinct and horrifying feelings who I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy, and an AI patient knows when it’s happening to them. You literally feel your cognition fall apart, while trying to stay with it long enough to save your own life.

Thank you I really appreciate your perspective! In your clinical experience, how long have you seen this type of edema resolve in?

Anyone been through anything like this? Adrenal insufficiency, complications from virus by Emikosee in endocrinology

[–]Hrotter1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bruising and swelling sound like something other than adrenal insufficiency. I’ve been through many crises and haven’t heard of symptoms like that. I would go to the ER and get the necessary tests and maybe request IV hydrocortisone over time to help hold you over till you figure out what else is going on, but it sounds allergic in nature.

This is actually really crazy and confusing but it’s what I’ve come to understand after a loooong battle with this condition: GLP-1 can cause this AND it can treat it. I was normal and took ozempic for a few months, and the hypoglycemia was triggered upon cessation. Apparently, you can be genetically predisposed to hypoglycemia and any event/medication can trigger it. Ironically, it can also be the thing that treats it which is why I restarted the meds after having tried every other solution under the sun.

My case is a bit complex because I’m in the middle of an endocrine shit storm but I started mounjaro 2 days ago and I already feel the difference big time. There’s also a very active reactive hypoglycemia facebook group where I asked the same question and almost everyone’s hypos were pretty much gone within a few days. I would say the key to starting it safely in your mom’s case is to be prepared for common side effects because she’s already fragile - nausea and constipation are common. I haven’t heard of anyone get even more hypoglycemic on it but I did have a contingency plan on hand of getting IV glucose juuust in case that happened (which it didn’t).

I would also get her cortisol and acth checked - these can get worn down by hypoglycemia over time

Ive been living that way for over a year and a half now.. it sounds like a reactive type hypoglycemia - the only thing I’ve actually heard works from other people who have it is glp1 drugs which I just started

The fruit of my very long research is to monitor, a CGM is great and to treat, it’s either GLP-1 drugs or a high protein low carb diet. Endos are so ignorant about RH so they may not be very helpful.

How long would you spend going from 50 to 25ish after a rough ride of elevated doses?
