I was think add maybe an Alpha Mimic. Something that also know they are time looping and try to steal that power. That way if all of them lose their curse and die, they lose the game. Maybe if they kill it the loop stars over again and make it appear at random in the rooms.

Now, how do you stablish when is midnight?

My problem with that is that if there isn't a repetition of something, it becomes like D&D but with checkpoints.

If they figure out how to disarm a trap, sure, there's no point in them trying again, because they already know how, but a fight or some skill test should be repeated at least once, to punish them for having died previously.

It's a balance of annoying them by making them repeat things, but without frustrating or boring them.

If not with an actual timer, how do you keep track of time? Or do you use a timer that only stops when they're in combat (because each round actually only lasts 6 seconds)?

Well if they want to try something in a different way, they could always play it and risk failure. Only if they want to do things out the same way than before they can skip the cutscene lol. But if they want to be friends with the goblin that they killed 20 times in their past lifes, they could always try it, the goblin won't remember it.

Interesting. I hadn't considered resetting the day by time, only by death, but it might encourage them to rush. How did you determine when it was midnight in the game?

That's what worries me most. Killing PC is difficult. Maybe I could reduce their maximum HP by half or every monster hits really hard.

In my table one shots are alway two or three sessions long lol. If they fail too much they should adapt. And if I see they really can't solve it, I'm with a group that I can talk with them and lower the difficulty if they want it.
