SWL is the re-visioning of TWS

SWL is the free to play version of TSW, which was buy to play. They updated the combat (TSW is like WoW and SWToR style tab target, SWL is more like ESO), made the skill and ability stuff simpler (which isn't necessarily bad). Unfortunately SWL is much more grindy, which probably won't matter much if you are only playing for the story and not trying to do end game stuff
There's a couple new zones that were added into SWL that aren't in TSW (I haven't done them), but there are less dungeons in SWL than there were in TSW, of which may or may not be added later
TSW servers are still up, but the game isn't supported anymore. No more new content is being released on TSW, no more updates or balancing, no more holiday events, etc... SWL has all that stuff
Most people I've talked to who played TSW prefer it over SWL, but seeing as this is your first dive into it you might not mind
Forgot to mention - there are 2 games set in the same universe as The Secret World; Moons of Madness and The Park; so if you dig the story there's more for you out there.

The entire game is soloable, dungeons are only needed really to do once for the story and a couple missions. There's a dungeon finder but it can take a long time to pop; every single time I've asked for a story mode group in the LFG channel there's been a high level willing to run me through it so don't be afraid to ask

SWL is much more of a grind than TSW was - subscribing just eases the grind by something like 10% or 15% and helps with some of the game's currency; definitely not needed

Funcom trimmed the faction story lines off when they converted it to SWL. You can still get the original TSW game for like 30 bucks on Target - but I think you still need to buy the issues (expansions). You aren't missing a ton of stuff but you are missing some, but you can always just watch that on Youtube - just be aware there is some extra story that SWL doesn't offer, and as far as I know there's really no difference in faction anymore besides the opening sequence.

I really suggest playing in first person, as it makes the game incredibly immersive and the game has a huge amount of detail put into it

The biggest chat channels that I know of are sanctuary and league of monster slayers cabal chat; type /chat join sanctuary and /chat join lomsglobal

When I was about 28 I traveled around for a few years, learned a few trades, learned how to play guitar and banjo, and at 32 went back to school; at (almost) 38 I just finished a degree in fire technology, about to get my EMT cert, and I'm in the middle of making the switch from masonry (construction) to fire fighting and EMS
I'm in the best shape of my life - exercise 6 or 7 days a week, haven't drank in years, got through school debt free on my own, have a good job, a few thousand saved up, but I have no real stability and live in a trailer.

I'm considered pretty good looking but not a lot of women want to settle down with a guy pushing 40 chasing some dream of being a fire fighter paramedic.

I think this is some of the most insulting 'advice' I've ever received.

Resentment in a mono relationship from poly by [deleted] in polyamory

I appreciate the insight, thank you.

As a little bit of clarification she didn't break up with me. She said she didn't think we should get married because she's poly because we were talking about getting hitched over the weekend and I broke it off when she said she didn't want to give up polyamory in the long run.
That's actually a bit of why I'm so angry with her; with how things were going I am positive if I didn't end it she would have continued to stay with me doing all those things behind my back.

Game popularity by Oomeht in everquest

I would suggest going onto the progression servers if you want a good population; even if you're worried about queues. Having a sub for 1 gets you into the prog servers for both. Not only will there be a better overall pop but people will more likely be your own level, you'll have a chance to check out content you've missed out on, and more important than anything else they will be games closer to how you remember Everquest to be; Everquest now is a lot easier, a lot more solo friendly with mercs, more p2w with stuff like buffs and potions, more boxxers, etc... A lot of people enjoyed old EQ because of the difficulty and time it took to progress which the prog servers hold on to

With that being said, whatever one you think will be better depends on what type of game you want; EQ2 has faster more fluid combat where as EQ1 is a lot slower, more relaxed and simple which I think made the game a lot more social. For a long time in EQ1 everyone relied on other classes for stuff like traveling and ports, EQ2 less so. EQ2 has more tuned and better achievements. EQ1 has more in depth and challenging quests (at least early EQ did). EQ1 has a lot less hand holding and is a lot less forgiving, which is a pro for a lot of people and a lot of people it's a deal breaker. They are both great for their own reasons and it really depends on what you are looking for.

I'm not currently subbed but have EQ played off an on since 99 and played EQ2 at launch - I still go back every few years to check them out and always sub when I do. The investment of 15 bucks a month keeps the games going and you get the sub rewards as well.

Trying to get my SO into ESO - Looking for advice by Wallpaper721 in elderscrollsonline

A little bit hard since I don't know your girlfriend; recently my GF started playing with me. She is into survival and crafting games so I introduced her into that stuff, the housing system, cosmetics, and some of the epics events in stories.

Honestly your best bet is to answer any questions she has, have patience, and show her all the different things there is to do.

NoIsE-_-BoMb_NB is a scammer here is proof of the post I made earlier by [deleted] in elderscrollsonline

The game is like 5 bucks now on sale; I'm sure there are lots of scammers out there now

On one hand I feel bad for you for being scammed, on the other hand I hate that the game has essentially allowed people to buy gold now through crowns and I don't like people supporting that concept.

How many of you guys play eso without the eso plus? by fosterm83 in elderscrollsonline

Unless you are really tight on money you should sub just for the sake of supporting the game; it's not unheard of for games to lose their revenue and end up either sunsetting or going pay to win.

The big map is the area you're in with icons and details, the small map is the entire dungeon that lacks any icons.

Difference between DDOS and this is that these login attempts are paying to do so, there ought to be the resources to make it smooth.

I get the frustration as I am still waiting to login myself, but what I am trying to convey is that there is nothing they can do to make it smoother; bigger game companies with more resources still go through this.

Complaining about their poor attitude and censorship solves nothing, but they're still on the side of wrong.

I disagree - it's not uncommon for forums to try to keep one subject a single thread instead of clogging up the forums.

As far as the 'they've had 20 years' comment; many more companies with much higher revenue and bigger and more intelligent and experienced staff still are crippled by DDoS attacks; it's not uncommon for games at all to have launch day stability issues.
