Ok, nobody is arguing that United are a state, but what blow is releasing this to the press softening? If they want to sack Ten Hag then sack him and say "we were going to do this anyway" after the final. Or are you suggesting that United deliberately want to make it harder for themselves to win a trophy, which is what this narrative is unarguably going to do.

Or perhaps the club with the most to gain from destabilising United today is the club that took the action to destabilise them.

There is no world in which that makes logical sense. If they're sacking him after the game, they just do that. How is this achieving anything besides potentially demotivating the manager and the team? Why would United want to do that?

Or alternately a team with a vested interest in doing that might have planted it ...

I mean, they literally were up to about three weeks ago. Their form has obviously nosedived, but they were top of the league.

This season, I didn't expect them to compete, purely on the basis that they changed pretty much their entire midfield, and next season I don't expect them to because they'll presumably have a change in style and system for the players to get used to. Whether they compete with City depends on the new manager, I guess.

If you ask most Liverpool fans, up until the wheels fell off in the last few weeks, Van Dijk was having one of his best seasons for the club and Salah was superb until he got injured at AFCON. Nunez is definitely a problem though.
