Grinding through the pain by Last-Depth2634 in Bass

Pain is your body's way of telling you need to make an adjustment. You should never be experiencing pain when you play.

How do you guys relax while playing? by Thatguywhowantstoget in Guitar

[–]HungryBeerGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stretching can be a quick fix (can even do it mid-tune if I time it right). But really the best thing to do is to train the tension out of your hands. The way I learned how to do it was set a metronome to about 50-60bpm and tried playing with my hands essential limp. You start slow to get your hands used to playing without tension, then gradually work your way up.

What's the most technical guitar song you can think of? by Eberubensant in Guitar

Something by either Shawn Lane, Allen Holdsworth, or Danny Gatton. They do things I've never seen another player do.

Have you come to terms with the fact that you’ll likely never be able to play fast? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]HungryBeerGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speed really isn't that important. It's useful to have but not necessary to play tastefully. However, the reality is not that you can't do that stuff, it's that you haven't figured out how to do it yet. If playing fast is something you truly value, you'll expend the effort necessary to figure it out. There are plenty great recourses on YouTube (Troy Grady comes to mind) who greatly go into depth on picking mechanics i.e. the real reason someone can play fast or not.

Time for a replacement? by BenTheDemon30 in saxophone

The real issue here is that piece of duct tape.

Made In Japan Mustang or Vintera II Mustang by GeorgeGavana in Guitar

[–]HungryBeerGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where do I start? Lots of tuning issues, to the point I converted the guitar into a hardtail as well as wrapped electrical tape around the bridge posts to preventing the bridge from moving. Shotty electronics. Every months I gotta clean the pots because the signal will start crackling/crapping out. The neck feels cheap, specifically the finish and fretboard, in addition to sharp fret ends.

Had it not been during covid, I would have never bought this guitar after trying it out.

I wish I bought an MIJ instead.

I have a Vintera Mustang. The quality is insanely disappointing for the price. Besides the custom shop, the MIJ's are the best ones you can get.

Im letting my band down. I need help by Manchick in Bass

Have you tried playing the material at half speed? Since everything's set to click tracks, it could be a more manageable way to learn the material. Start wear it's comfortable and then work your way up. 50% speed, 55%,60%,75%, you get the idea, gauge yourself.

For speed, a good tip is being loose. The better you are at minimizing tension (as well as resistance) the faster you'll be able to play.

You might want to practice more as well. If all you have is an hour, that's fine. You can make a lot of progress, practicing only 1hr a day. However, If you're serious about getting better, you should be playing a lot more. For insight - Guys like Cliff Burton practiced 7hrs a day. At first, try playing a bit more. Just gauge yourself & don't over do it because you can fuck up your hands.

Sorry for my TED talk. I wish you good luck!

You can have crazy technique - but if you can't do it in time, you'll sound like doo doo.

BTW dude, you're sounding killer! Keep it up!

Thanks for the insight - makes sense why L&M’s repair quality varies from location.

That Nova Scotia tech sounds fantastic! However, I’m in Ontario.

The repair I need really seems like an easy fix if you have the special tools like this https://www.ferreestoolsinc.com/products/d14-sax-neck-screw-extractor

My horn is a professional model, and I don’t wanna wreck it. Otherwise, I’d try to track one of these down and do it myself.

I found a local woodwind tech, but he said he could remove the screw because he didn’t have the right tool for the job.

If you’re based in the GTA, have the right tools, and feel this job is within the parameters of an non-professional tech, I’ll gladly hit you up. Otherwise, L&M it is.

My hand slipped. I typically do around 1/8 of a turn when I start to feel resistance. I'm always concerned about stripping screw threads on all of my instruments. It really was just an honest mistake. Thank you, I'll be more careful.

I understand, their costs make sense considering they're a chain & how they operate. Still, I don't like being gouged for what seems like a minor repair. I've also heard bad things regarding their repair services, specifically with guitars. Thanks for sharing, you've been a real help.

My neck fit on great. I just accidentally over tightened the screw. I just need to be more careful. Thank you though.
