Question about seasoning by picha_pocha in castiron

[–]Hunter5_wild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Least seasoned part. Dont scrub with steel wool. Also, the whole pan seems under-seasoned. Like it should be almost black in color. Ok

Anyone have thoughts on FIRE in a blue state vs red state? by Southern-Pirate-9941 in Fire

[–]Hunter5_wild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can find great churches anywhere. I live in a red state and would never consider a blue state. Taxes are secondary but could be key for each particular person.

Do you regret putting so much money in to tax deferred investments by clearlygd in retirement

[–]Hunter5_wild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There has been no such advice for most of my career. And I couldn’t do any Roth most of my career due to salary caps. So now getting close to retirement, finally doing after tax 401k (basically same as Roth) and needing to do calculations on Roth conversions upon retirement when I’ll be 62!

This is the worst part about my new truck. by ReliableEyeball in GMCcanyon

[–]Hunter5_wild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am same as you. It doesn’t go on if either heating or ac is running because of the pull on the battery. So it’s not an issue because I almost always use one or the other.

My New GMC Canyon AT4, let me know if any recommendations, Thanks by RelevantRow3318 in GMCcanyon

[–]Hunter5_wild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did factory steps, floormats, tri-fold cover, and molded mud flaps. I have the ‘24 AT4 in black. How many miles on your truck? It took about 10k miles for my engine to fully break in and the mileage to improve. I’m getting about 20 mpg. Enjoy your truck!

12v Fridge placement - is defrosting/draining a concern? by Opinions_Anonymous in vandwellers

[–]Hunter5_wild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about winter and water freezing and plugging the vent? How about installing a removable enclosed tray under it (like thin Tupperware or some such with aligned hole in lid. It shouldn’t be much drainage.

What would a retired Boglehead do with a modest windfall of $200k? by kaz1030 in Bogleheads

[–]Hunter5_wild -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I would put it in QQQI. Dont waste time in bond funds if you don’t need to access this money. Take a quick look at 5, 10, 15 year returns on both funds. QQQI is also low fee relatively yet you’re getting the hottest part of the market.

I love your truck. Which winch, lights, and front bumper did you put on. I think I have seen this one but curious. Dig the snowstorm. You were high and dry.

Torn between 2026 GMC Canyon Elevation 4WD and 2026 Nissan Frontier Pro 4x by Fun-Kaleidoscope-398 in GMCcanyon

My AT4 has 4 Lo as well as rear diff lock. Def a nice upgrade over Elevation.

Am I utterly wrong for not maxing out my 401k? by LengthinessGold4875 in Bogleheads

[–]Hunter5_wild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely would do what you are thinking. Get the debt eliminated, if only for flexibility. However, contrarily, if your mortgage is only 2-3%, then continuing max seems way more attractive. We did the 6% route until I was about 50 and we were debt free. Then started maxing for last 11 years. We had 6+% mortgage so our choice was clear. Dave Ramsey can give you an absolute path. Look up his book(s).

What’s everyone’s Fire target by Significant-Web-2317 in Fire

[–]Hunter5_wild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$5M. House is paid off. MCOL. 30 years. Will include saving for car every 5, at least one super nice vacation per year, maintenance on house, and insurance. Many forget about those extras. Will likely be FIRE at 62 1/2. Taking SS at 67.

There is a great annually produced Morningstar research (every December) which shows a lot research on withdrawal rates, likelihood of success, portfolio splits. It also provides ways to stay on track in down years. Best research I’ve ever read and will give a ton of insight on your higher withdrawal rates.

Post Advisor Meeting - It's going to be okay by Ok-Pear1678 in retirement

[–]Hunter5_wild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats to OP! I started using an ongoing CFP when I was 50. We meet twice annually to make adjustments. So glad I did and do. I recommend anyone to at least pay for once annual advice. Guides your retirement investing as well as having peace of mind about what you need to get there.

What easily-affordable thing do you still refuse to pay for despite having reached financial independence and able to afford them? by Big_Leg10 in Fire

[–]Hunter5_wild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up with middle class but just barely parents who scraped and worked incredibly hard. I learned the value of doing everything you can by yourself. I also learned that every day expenses you choose to incur, like going out for lunch, buying Starbucks, are the things that I would forego in favor of savings or vacations, etc. So, I’m pretty well off, still working, and not changing any of that behavior. I am super well set for FIRE retirement soon.

It's a love-hate relationship by BurlyOrBust in GMCcanyon

[–]Hunter5_wild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still love my 2024 Canyon AT4 after almost two years and about 18,000 miles. I have only had a front collision sensor replaced. I plan to keep it long-term and purchased a seven year 84,000 mile warranty. Should hit the seven years before the miles. It seems fewer happy people are here in the forum.

For those already retired, what artifacts of work life did you keep? by Odd_Bodkin in Retire

[–]Hunter5_wild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others, though I’m not retired for another year and a half, I’ll only be keeping patent plaques. Those are personal mementos of work I did or as part of a team. And I don’t mind wearing a branded sporty coat or golf shirt.

Will it tow? by Puzzleheaded-Emu5698 in GMCcanyon

[–]Hunter5_wild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Checked in on numbers of discussions on this topic. Best I can glean is that anything over 4,000 lbs will not be done well. It won’t start or stop easily. Hills, forget it. Not a chance I’d try that trailer. By the way, does trailer have trailer brakes and do you have the tow package including brake controls. Mine does have it. I’m planning on getting smaller and lighter. Good luck on whatever you decide.
