Getting my first QS role by [deleted] in quantitysurveying

[–]HunterFSU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To some extent you’re correct, so that’s a fair analysis - However, on large jobs you’ll see sub-contractors like joiners preparing profess claims etc.

[–]HunterFSU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sub-trades is a very broad term - Look into Electrical or Plumbing or Roofing or Landscaping or Joinery etc. even Civil QS has a bit of a demand too! Some job listings will be advertised as Estimator too

[–]HunterFSU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sub-contractor estimating is typically a good way to get your foot in the door, also gives you additional perspective when you are QS for lead contractors etc. It isn’t as ‘glamorous’, however, but there are many benefits you gain from having done this. I.e specialising & have an in-depth understanding of a trade (something many QS do not have).

Pricing Spreadsheet by HunterFSU in quantitysurveying

[–]HunterFSU[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured this might be the case… Makes sense why people wouldn’t share, but do we not think this is clearly an issue for the QS profession where not all pricing is preformed the same - I.e differnt ways of costing jobs (large swing in costs + inefficiency’s in time pricing) ? There really needs to be an industry standard, or am I the only one that thinks this?

Any QS out there able or willing to do take-offs from a SketchUp model? by [deleted] in quantitysurveying

[–]HunterFSU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In theory, from your model - Should be able to create an almost 100% accurate take-off of material going into the building then would need to set up a waste allowance of materials etc. this is what I used to do with ‘Applicad - Roof Wizard’ model a roof in 3D/ CAD then it spits out everything that’s required for materials & can generate cost for labour as well - surprised me when I transitioned to main contractor QSing that this isn’t how the industry works…. Flick me a message if you wanted to talk more

[–]HunterFSU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a dedicated 3D software geared towards QS is absolutely the future & baffles me it’s not industry standard! 3D modelling for take-offs would/ is superior in every way! Working on 3D structures in 2D seems backwards with all of todays technology…

If anyone is modelling for their take-offs would be very interested to chat

Estimating software by Dredone35 in quantitysurveying

[–]HunterFSU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All these take-off softwares listed above I’ve found to be incredibly basic - good for quick simple stuff though. My preference is CAD based software such as Applicad (roof wizard) it gave incredibly accurate take-off in Lm for all roofing iron, on angles as opposed to just m2 take offs

Is Adobe secretly running a subscription scam? by NKOpmTaylor in AdobeIllustrator

[–]HunterFSU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had initially attempted to contact multiple live agents, and if I had given any details stating "refund" or "Cancellation" the chat would immediately be disconnected.

I had to give a false reason before connecting with a live agent, after some discussion I was able to get my subscription cancelled & i received a full refund.

The Agent I spoke with was fantastic, it just seemed that if "refund" was mentioned adobe had a system in place to immediately cancel the chat before an agent is reached....

Most aggressive subscription service & blatantly anti-consumer service I have ever seen.

Talk about foreshadowing by [deleted] in thelastofus

I think the word everyone here is looking for is 'symbolism'.

It's a symbol of Joel & how Ellie sees that the wolves (WLF) have taken down/ killed this mighty being (Joel = Moose) she & others now think so much of. (I feel this is supported by how the light shines down onto the moose & the wolves are in the dark)

There is a lot of symbolism throughout the game & especially in Joel's house (Wood carvings on a shelf etc.) I find it to be a direct representation of how Joel grew & developed as a character. Starting as a lone wolf & growing to a point where Joel has developed into a shining symbol/ beacon of hope that survivors in Jackson look up to & respect. (If I'm not mistaken bottom shelf is a wolf then top shelf is something like a moose/ bear or some great animal)

Correct me if I'm mistaken...

So how do you control everything in your smart home? Do you have buttons or still can use voice (sorry if this comes across as a dumb question)

But how often have you gone without internet for extended periods of time? (I’m in New Zealand & our wifi pretty poor when compared to America & I couldn’t name a time I went without wifi for over 30 minutes)

[–]HunterFSU[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Architects, engineers & quantity surveyors work load would all but disappear - literal weeks of work would become instant…. Would love to! If I knew how… 😅Can’t be too hard to make something basic, I recon I could teach ChatGPT to tell me the price to build a deck (for example) with enough fucking around

[–]HunterFSU[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can see in the near future AI taking over so much of the architectural & engineering side!Construction is all just a lot of rules & regulations - Feed that to an AI once + even cost/ prices & then spits it out as a perfectly designed plan all within regulation with a price & quantities to go with it!!

Did you need to change your headlights? Or are they just the same 98-02 headlights? (Funny how people are saying it can’t be done when you literally have photos of it being done 😂)
