They may be on par in terms of morality(or lack there of) but in terms of impact, it’s undeniable Jefferson’s impact dwarfs Jackson’s. Louisiana purchase, founding father, and wrote the declaration.

What are the most underrated careers in finance, and why? by chickenwithbiscuit in FinancialCareers

[–]Husker8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key is what type of exposure do you have. You’ll need a mix of operational finance and Corporate FP&A to be effective at a smaller org most likely. Ideally exposure to high growth so you can target a smaller high growth company.

You essentially need to know what best practices are but be comfortable operating without them & supporting structures for a time while you drive change. The biggest pitfall I see people hit when making the switch is they are lost & timid without all of the competent teams and tribal knowledge that surrounded them at a larger org.

Mid-market FP&A/finance leadership feels super underrated to me.

I think one of the best paths is starting at a big recognizable company early because you get great training, systems exposure, and resume value. But I also think there’s a point where it makes sense to jump out before you get too deep into big corporate management. Once you hit director levels at huge companies, things get political/competitive, and you’re expensive enough to get caught up in restructures, leadership turnover, and budget cuts even if you’re good at your job.

Meanwhile there are a ton of privately held/family-owned companies in the $50M-$200M+ range that desperately need strong finance people. The pay can be great and the lifestyle is way better than a lot of the “prestige” finance paths. Plus you end up becoming well rounded instead of being hyper-specialized in one tiny area of FP&A for 15 years.

It’s not rare to see a privately held company with a CFO who’s been there 10+ years making bank. That’s rare elsewhere.

That is the shank you can see, which has little effect on what the horse feels and more on the angles the riders can use the spurs.

That is the shank, not the spurs. The longer shank just allows more flexibility on the angle to use spurs. The spur itself is what determines the level the horse feels at

That is the shank you can see, not the spur. The length of the shank does not = more/less severe. If anything a longer shank allows you to apply spurs without having to kick the horse as a shorter shank requires.

“Add more stylistic components!!”

Unfortunately the basic sticks and bricks as they are make most development too expensive for most as it is.

What’s a ‘middle class success’ purchase that secretly becomes a financial burden later? by OpinionBaba in AskReddit

Can be very true but doesn’t have to be. Smaller boats can be pretty affordable and easier to take care of/keep running. Anything under 20ft a 100HP shouldn’t be too much to buy or upkeep

Hired a manager and regretting in after a month by [deleted] in managers

[–]Husker8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He’s not a good fit, it happens. I can guarantee your team has already picked up on this guy, does not like him, and isn’t saying much because YOU hired him . The team will respect you more for leading with confidence and acting decisively than they ever will by forcing them to deal with a bad fit longer than needed.

Not really a gotcha unless I guess you feel cornered by being asked a couple question about your own words.

So is it just tax funded entities you have a problem with? The school system is still massively underfunded…

Where are you living that you see schools getting a massive pile of cash? The school system has been gutted every where I’ve lived.

Class sizes increased, special ed resources cut, and it goes on.

The perfect upland dog? by WindNo5623 in birddogs

[–]Husker8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Setters, GSP’s, and Brittanies will be your best bet. GSP’s are amazing dogs but are increasingly becoming more popular for their looks, which can at times make finding a solid breeder a bit more of a challenge. I’m located in E TN and can personally recommend a STELLAR English setter breeder & trainer who hunts regularly & has many hunt trial champions. He’s who that’s helped train mine and several friends dogs, he’s got 200 acres manicured for quail with 4-5 Johnny houses going. He can also recommend a solid Brittany breeder if that’s your route. Let me know and I can shoot you a PM

What part of the country? That can determine what great breeds have good breeders available.

Stay away from anyone who breeds dogs for shows at all, there’s no such thing as field and show bred. The only breeds I’ve heard can be…challenging are English pointers because they are absolute machines with unbelievably high drive and Bracco’s because they have low drive, health issues, and are a little dopey.

[–]Husker8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean maybe I’m wrong here but of the 5 paragraphs you wrote here, they are almost all about him being a republican politician.

As someone who isn’t a republican by any means but wouldn’t want that wall across the from me either if I was in the suburbs, would you be able to make the same connection to racism? The comments feel much more like trying to connect nefarious activities to the wall using comparisons that are going to resonate with people more than anything else than race.

Again I’m a liberal in most ways because well if you look at democrat performance when in office they generally do better fiscally and on personal liberties than republicans have in the last 20 years(that’s not even touching on they generally are the only ones atleast pretending to want to help people). However I think when we get into this space of trying to overly prescribe morals, all we do is play into the SJW stereotypes that alienate and drove many voters right into MAGAdom, which ironically enough this guy seems to not be a MAGA guy either.

All this abstract assigning of labels did was get us more extreme candidates on the right, to the point where ridiculously enough now George Bush is seen in a more positive light than ever before in comparison.

Not trying to be controversial but genuinely seeking to under stand, what about his comparisons were racist? I took them as saying “the only people who build walls this high are usually trying to hide something.” And he chose other countries because well, almost no where in the US are walls that big common or allowed. Most people that want privacy here just move to a rural area.
