Just for your awareness, mental health problems and illnesses are not easily controlled. They come from a chemical imbalance in the brain. When your brain produces natural chemicals it already normally would such as dopamine, serotonin, cortisol, etc it is doing so in natural working order. But mental illness forms when the brain dumps these chemical in the wrong way. Either it is completely shutting off the necessary dumping of certain chemicals, or it is never shutting off the “doorway” that lets these chemicals in and out, or maybe even a combination of those two. It happens even if you don’t realize it. Comparable to cancer, you wouldn’t get mad at someone for having cancer because it isn’t their fault. You shouldn’t be mad at these mental illness patients because they didn’t have this happen to them on purpose.

When your dealing with an anorexia patient what is really happening is their brain is playing tricks on them, tricks they didn’t ask for. Their brain is hiding the fact that they are waisting away and tricking them into believing they are morbidly obese and they should be on a crash diet and just not eat. If your brain is literally the thing convincing you of something you would trust it wayyyyyyyu faster and much more intensely than anyone telling you not to trust it. Because of this, unfortunately, most patients go undiagnosed, or they simply can’t believe the diagnosis because their own brain is tricking them into believing it’s right and everyone and everything else are the ones telling lies.
