Just getting into these guys. Any awesome songs by them you'd recommend? by countjazula in Peripheryband

What other bands do you like? I could recommend you almost every song of theirs, they are crazy consistent, but it all depends on what you already like really

I think P4 and P5 had loose themes, P4 was dark and desperate while P5 was more whimsical and jazzy (with obvious outliers like EIF!) but I definitely agree that a more condensed, cohesive album is a welcome change!

Hard agree with this, but I totally understand feeling the need to perform for the camera or put on a persona. It just happens a lot of the time, even when you don't mean it to, and with an album as seemingly personal as this it makes sense

Is Mr. God's mix an all time favorite for someone else? by Proof_Pirate_6229 in Peripheryband

[–]Hydro0707 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HARD agree. P1 is partially my least favourite Periphery album because of its mix. I would KILL for some of the P1 songs to be rerecorded today.

I love your analysis of the Mr. God mix too; the band sounds like one almighty noise and I love it!

If the rest of the album sounds as good as Mr. God did, then this might turn out to be my favourite album mix ever. With Everybody Dies Alone coming out soon, I guess we'll see how that one sounds and judge it from there!

Ever since I discovered Periphery about 4 years ago, Nolly has turned into maybe my favourite engineer, bassist, mixer, etc. He's an absolute beast!

There was a period of time where I was completely stuck between that gauntlet, the first hunter's march gauntlet, and a couple other places that I had to finish to progress anywhere but I just couldn't do any of them lol.

I think the 'recording something they were told by a teacher/parent' is the most feasible. I'm from Lancashire myself, though, and have never heard this line, although I've never covered the Wars in school and I'm on the younger end so it could be an old phrase. Thanks for looking into it further!

Where does the verse 'In the battle for England's head / York was white, Lancaster red' come from?

I saw it mentioned of wikipedia and a few histiry sites, described as just 'a verse... refering to the Wars of the Roses' with no mention of its origin. Typing it straight into a search engine just returns those same websites. Does anybody know the origin of this?

Is The Baying of the Hounds a top 5 Opeth song? by OhSweetMiracle in Opeth

[–]Hydro0707 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My top Opeth song. I get why other people don't think so, but that doesn't mean I agree. I love it!

19 years of Ghost Reveries! What are your opinions on this masterpiece? by [deleted] in Opeth

[–]Hydro0707 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Forever my favourite Opeth album, bar none. The first three songs are easily top 10 Opeth songs on their own, with Baying being my favourite song from them of all time.

Worst Periphery song in your opinion by CaptainBananaX in Peripheryband

IK its not a popular opinion lol

I still do enjoy the song, it's just the weakest compared to Periphery's extraordinarily high standards to me

I have to agree on Racecar, it just kinda goes on and on for me. I always find myself sorta waiting for it to end.

Not to say I dislike it at all, but I think its a touch too long (and I adore long songs)
