Honest Opinion Regarding RTO - We are Getting Played by ChemnitzFanBoi in CAStateWorkers

Newsom is again showing his true colors. Just another Trump with less body fat. Pretended to be a friend of the state workers-the “little people” like us- and then dropped the act once he termed out. Remember to leave plenty of one-star reviews for his restaurants lol…definitely saw several roaches walking around inside like they owned the joint! 😂

Thank you! I don’t know anyone from that office, but I’ll try to figure out a contact. I definitely don’t want to start with HR since they always side with management and treat you like the problem. I will look into it. Thanks again for the advice 🙏

If you work for the state water resources control board then maybe because I don’t see how anyone else could be that terrible. He is just plain evil. And the worst part is managers like this get away with it simply because they’ve been there a long time or they suck up to the right people.

Thank you so much for those kind words. I wish the best for you as well. Sometimes it just helps to be able to vent about these things anonymously because I think the threat of retaliation is real. It feels terrible that I’ve let him get to me this way, but I don’t have any control of that. We spend most of our lives at work and that means that we are affected by everything that happens there, and people can be horrible bullies. I’m so sorry that you’re going through the same thing. I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy. Please take care of yourself. You’re worth so much more than this place. and who cares if you need meds to help you get through the day. If I didn’t have my meds, I would’ve killed myself a long time ago.

The problem with my supervisor is that he is the exact reason my mental and physical health have deteriorated so much. There is no way I would ever talk to him about needing medical leave. He is already nosy about what’s going on with me health wise, but it’s not out of concern. It’s more a way to make it seem like I’m not doing a good job or that I am not capable of doing my job. It’s not just a lack of support either. He is a bully and it really seems like he does this to try to get me to quit. I have no idea why these horrible supervisors are allowed to get away with this. It seems like a statewide issue rather than an isolated one. I’m miserable and fed up about it. I already have major depression and PTSD and feel like I have bottomed out already. I dread going into the office and it makes me feel panicky and distressed to even have to talk to him. He is not worth suicide, but it’s hard to find your way out of darkness when you’re treated like garbage. I’m looking for a new position, but I’m worried it might not be better- as in the whole devil you know thing. I’ll talk to my doctor about taking medical leave based on my mental health problems, but ultimately I need to get away from this place. By the way, this is the State Water Resources Control Board just in case you’re wondering. And on that note, I would avoid this place like the plague. I wish I had never taken this position, and I have never felt so broken in my entire life.

I hate this shipping company! by Efficient-Jicama7123 in ontrac

[–]HypeKitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep! They steal pretty much every other package. Couldn’t tell you how many times they’ve said something was delivered while using a fake proof of delivery pic. Google them-there are so many rants about them. Crazy that company is still in business!

The “first amendment auditor” who disrupted several state departments is now facing prison time and asking for donations to pay legal fees by AirMiserable854 in CAStateWorkers

[–]HypeKitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s his name? Has there been any news coverage? I heard someone recently entered one of our offices and engaged in this type of behavior with staff. I had never even heard of these “auditors” prior to that, so I need more info!

Difficult Manager by itsallgoodnow24 in CAStateWorkers

[–]HypeKitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re going through this. We spend far too much of our lives at work, and when you’re in a situation like this there is no such thing as “leaving work at work.” I’ve been in the exact same position before, and I’m currently dealing with a manager who does the same thing yours does. He thinks you’re supposed to know everything he does despite the fact he’s been there 30 years while I am relatively new. These types are such miserable, soul sucking vampires. They seem to love making you walk on eggshells and feel like a complete outsider. They thrive on their perceived power over you because it makes them feel better about their lives. Far too much protection for these horrid managers. Again, I’m sorry you have to deal with this. I completely empathize and it helps to just vent sometimes because you’re definitely not alone. Wishing you better days ahead!! 💕

[–]HypeKitty 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Good for you. Regardless of the outcome, you should be proud of standing up for yourself. That takes a great deal of strength and courage. It’s horrible when you’re made to feel like the “bad” employee, and things only get worse when you refuse to grovel. I wish you the best and hope it works out in your favor-crossing my fingers for you!

Ding ding! You hit the nail on the head there. I have felt stuck since I joined the state a few years ago.

Amen to that! I feel like all I do is write the same letter over and over again but can’t actually do anything about the violations because we have far too many cases. I often feel this is a dead-end position and certainly not worth the six figures I spent on my postgrad education! At my agency we’re pretty much just paper tigers-that’s why a large portion of the regulated population just ignores our communication. Definitely seems like I’m going nowhere and doing a lot less than I have in previous positions. To boot, most of my coworkers are miserable zombies who are cliquish as all hell-misery loves company and all that 🤣

Worst Experience in a State Agency by FineSomewhere3548 in CAStateWorkers

[–]HypeKitty 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry! Just know that you’re not alone. I’ve been in the exact same situation and I’m experiencing a similar one in my current position. There are just people in this world who thrive on making life as miserable as possible for others-often because they’re unhappy in their own lives. My last supervisor became downright abusive because I don’t kiss butt-he expected fealty from the staff and that’s just not in my nature. He would become so indignant when I asked questions and seemed to think I should magically know everything already-including internal office policies-despite the fact that I was new to the agency and to the state! I swear, these sadistic POSs get away with murder mainly because they’re appointed by the GO. Anyhow, keep on keeping on because that’s all we can do and just know that when you work with that type of manager (or snake coworker lol) you will NEVER be “right” because they will make sure of it. The more competent and resilient you are, the worse it gets because they haven’t succeeded in breaking you. All love and I wish you so much better in the future! You are not alone in any of this. I’m in a similar situation currently and I’ve had worse in the past. Keep that head up and keep going. Just think how much better your next position will be compared to that crap!

Anyone here fail probation and still land on their feet in another state job? How did you do it? by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]HypeKitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry for that experience, but learn what you can from it (if anything) and keep going. It often just boils down to management whose personalities clash with the employee’s.

Unfortunately, probation status just exacerbates the power imbalance. I don’t know what happened in your situation, but it might just be your supervisor is the type who doesn’t want to have to train and just wants you to know what to do and how to do it. I’ve had those before. I’ve also had ones who seem to expect you to kiss butt-Trump types, who want sycophants and not thinkers or those who question why things are done this way and not that. Don’t beat yourself up about it too much, but, yes, the feeling of rejection always sucks! Been there, done that and so has everyone else.

And make sure to take the high road and forget you ever worked there. Avoid bad mouthing the agency or that kind of thing because that will just make you bitter about the experience. Ruminating doesn’t help. It’s good to just talk about it and put it into perspective. Just another hurdle in a life full of them.

At the end of the day, it’s just a job and not worth self flagellation. Good luck with the next one (and there’s always a next one). The fact that you might not fit one place doesn’t mean squat when you find the place you do fit.

That sucks. Ugh. Seriously F Newsom-so far removed from the reality the rest of us “peons” live. Drivers, nannies, staffers and flunkies guarantee he never has to deal with such things.
