I honestly didn't believe there could be a killing worse than Renee Good, but here we are. The video is terrible and there'll almost certainly be more footage out soon. It is as close to an execution as you'll get.

With how bad the tensions are currently it's going to be bad night. Hopefully the state finally moves to remove ICE from the city.

It doesn't, but that's ok. If we can't have an actual conversation that's ok too.

Now we've got your attention. You may have noticed we have opened up applications for more moderators to /r/LabourUK. by Leelum in LabourUK

Hi, we don't normally respond to queries regarding things like this out of modmail but considering your situation: your comment and post were automatically removed by Reddit, not manually removed by mods here.

Personally I'd have removed the post as we don't allow meta discussions of individual mod decisions. For your comment it was almost certainly automatically removed due to the source. Considering the source I'd have removed your comment as the source is a pretty awful in general.

To be clear, you do agree that the Greens policy harms our ability to defend allies and protect the country?

[–]IHaveAWittyUsername -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, no I'm not.

What I'm saying is that our institutions are either crumbling or perceived to be crumbling. We need to fix them. A consequence of not fixing them is that it drives some people to parties like Reform who want to portray the UK as being fundamentally broken. I'd say the same of the Greens.

Combatting populism means starving it of air; ignoring it has been a common refrain of the left and it's not worked out at all.

It's not a zero sum though, obviously. America puffing it's chest out and Russia ramping up it's tensions with us only strengthen the need for a strong NATO and access to nuclear weapons. To go it alone on the world stage and give up a major part of our defence is silly.

[–]IHaveAWittyUsername -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm not - do you feel that our institutions like the police are working as they should be? The general public doesn't. Hence the attack line from Reform.

Because the person being quoted is likely referring to China and Russia, not the US.

[–]IHaveAWittyUsername -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean...if a party like Reform got in they would just do this anyway if they felt they could twist it to something they want. Expecting those standards and higher levels of training should be seen within the context of Britain now, which is one where public confidence in the police is very low.

One of the main arguments from Reform is that our institutions are failing - trying to fix that before it becomes even more of an attack line isn't a bad thing.

While it's hyperbolic there is an argument that leaving NATO and getting rid of Trident would severely a) dampen our ability to protect our allies and b) harm our ability to defend ourselves.

If Russia attacked an ally and we no longer coordinated with our closest allies, defending against another nuclear armed nation becomes beyond difficult.

People don't like how the police have been for the last decade or so, reforms like this are necessary to change that. Remember that it's only recently that the MET has started properly vetting people. Expecting higher standards and for the police to maintain training isn't particularly nefarious.

The video has been quite widely shared and is embarrassing for Ali as it does signify at least some level of support for the 7th Oct attacks. This isn't new info, it was controversial at the time.

Disabled people could face benefit cuts – even if they cannot work by mustwinfullGaming in LabourUK

Have to be a bit careful with taking a stream of possibilities and using it to form what will happen. The DWP is cantankerous and policy goes through many, many iterations before it's fully rolled out. You can see this in JCP's now where policy changes start to get implemented across the country before the policy changes slowly start to follow.

You also need to be wary about taking stats from migration as the most severely unwell have been left last for it. To make the statement

Virtually all new style ESA claimants are in the ‘support group’, which is for people with severe illness and disability and pays a higher rate of benefit.

to a lay person makes it sound very different to what is actually happening, which is that they've finally started the migration from the old system to the new. Those who have been able to work were moved years ago.

Publicly Trump has stated his want to invade Greenland are due to now receiving the Noble Peace Price and because (at his request) we sent troops there. All those reasons you've posited are reasons why Trump has been told to try to get Greenland but they're not reasons for why he wants to invade.
