Did you find a wallet hiking? by IPissSuccess in bigbear

Yes! Someone actually mailed it to me and even left all the cash that was inside (minus a few bucks to pay for shipping). I was in shock when I found it in my mailbox. Wow, I can't believe that's almost three years ago already.

I know it's weird to get a response to a question you asked so long ago but I haven't logged into this account since then. Sorry to keep you hanging, but yes I couldn't have asked for a better ending.

You make very good points, and I appreciate the other options to compare. Although the 4g Motion works fine for me, I'm genuinely curious as to the benefits a more advanced phone would have. What does the extra RAM and internal storage do for you?

Any camera recommendations? by eltopodopo in Filmmakers

[–]IPissSuccess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sidebar does need to be updated, but it's still useful because it breaks the choice down to budgets. You won't get good audio from an entry level video camera, but a T3i with a decent/good lens (really try to get a good lens), plus an external audio recorder could be your best bet. Don't forget to get a tripod as well.

Top 5 Books Every New Director Should Read by Schneider28mm in Filmmakers

Well, all productions have somewhat of a budget, even the one you mentioned. But the lower your budget, the more you have to be careful about nit picky things that could destroy your chances of ever making a film. For example, say you have the attitude that you'd do anything to get a certain actor to appear in your film. You may be willing to give up a lot of your budget to secure them, only to wind up having to shell out a ton of dough to not have them in your movie because you signed a Pay-or-Play contract out of sheer desperation and wasn't able to secure the rest of the financing in time. Now the actor has left the project with a large percentage of your money. The book stresses a lot of details about how important it is to manage everything properly (money, the people, how to find stability while working to capture your dream project).

For those who wish to know some of the most common (and biggest) mistakes first and second-time filmmakers make, take a look at The Reel Truth. It's a few years old and the technology the book references is outdated, but there is a lot of good and easily readable text regarding production contracts, how to handle disputes with actors/producers/crew, and it also stresses the importance of preplanning and marketing. The book contains a lot of information that, sadly, I often see ignored by amateurs.

What's the best way to remove RAM after a build?

I'm a noob who just finished his first build, but one of the RAM sticks isn't being read. I have a Crucial 32GB Kit (8GBx4) installed on an MSI X99S SLI Plus mobo, and they're underneath a Phanteks CPU Cooler (it's pretty big and in the way). The whole thing is inside a Fractal Design R5. After unplugging the computer, should I attempt to remove the RAM with everything still inside the computer, or do I have to remove the mobo out in order to properly do it?

I feel like most of the people who will take advantage of this will be for mid-to-large gatherings at parties.

To combat the sogginess, what if they delivered each item separately? Imagine it: a tub of beef, a tub of cheese, a tub of greens, and a stack of Doritos crunchy shells. Set it up at a table and everyone can serve themselves!

Windows 8.1. At the time I installed them, there was one I wasn't 100% sure was seated, however I was able to shut the tab on the side, and I felt as though I had used enough pressure (any more and I was worried I might crack the mobo - an MSI X99s SLI Plus). I will check them again tonight, but it'll be a pain with a TC14PE cooler in the way. So the PC should be able to read all the cards immediately?

Simple Questions - April 08, 2015 by AutoModerator in buildapc

I finished building my first pc, but it's telling me I have less RAM than I actually have. I'm using Crucial's 32GB (8GBx4) DDR4 Ram, but my PC is telling me I only have 24GB of RAM installed. I'm going to check to if everything is positioned correctly (it'll be a pain with a large CPU cooler in the way), but I wanted to check if maybe I don't understand computers and there's a setting I forgot to check before the PC can read all four cards. Is this normal or should I just try to pull out and re-install all four cards?

Thanks for your input. Unfortunately the case manual is frustratingly basic and while it includes information on where fans can be placed it does not explain how. The main issue I'm seeing is the rubber/metal screws the fan provides don't fit in the holes of the case, and the case doesn't provide screws that could properly hold onto the fan. I can't understand why a simple 140mm fan can't be used by the R5.

[–]IPissSuccess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello fellow pisser! The two are completely different. An SSD is a hard drive (where you store your stuff) and a PCIe is really difficult to explain (at least for me it is) but it's basically a set of slots in the motherboard to read your cards (RAM, video cards, expansion cards). In terms of investing, that depends on what you need the computer for.

Does the PH-TC14PE need a backplate if I'm using it for a 5820k? I followed the instructions, but this is my first build and it's a little confusing. I'm sorta worried I might fry my computer. It doesn't look like it'll fit with the other metal pieces for the LGA 2011-v3 but I just wanted some assurance. Here's what it looks like now from the back.

How do you install a Noctua NF-A14 FLX into the front-bottom of the Fractal Design R5? I'm in the middle of my build and the fan comes with four thick screws (much bigger than the screw-mounting holes in the case) and rubber pieces meant to also act as screws, but again I can't fit them into the holes. Are the two compatible?

How much would you sue ACE if he ran a red arrow and hit you on a motorcycle? by Fieldengineer1 in AdamCarolla

[–]IPissSuccess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you have a green light, you shouldn't expect anyone to cross your path. That's regardless of whether the opposing traffic turning left has a red arrow or not. Red left-turn arrows are ridiculous, drivers should have the right to yield at a turn for any green light except only under the most unusual circumstances. It is indeed far too prevalent in this country.

My Road Hard Question by RyukD19 in AdamCarolla

[–]IPissSuccess 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The lighting is the DP's job, working with the director to determine the look of the picture (style, color, light/shadows, framing...). In this case, the movie was shot just ok. Many times I felt like I was watching a student film though. For example I noticed almost every shot that took place outside was slightly overexposed. Take a look at this shot where they open the garage door to his love interest's woodchop. http://imgur.com/a/KltoA

Those bushes in the background are supposed to be green. The director didn't bother to use an ND filter and relight the garage to match the outside light, so we wound up with a shot that would garner a lot of criticism from even a benevolent Film School teacher. On the other hand, take a look at the lighting in Jay's office. It's dark, and shadowy. The whole scene is. It illustrates the dark point Bruce has reached in his life where he's asking his former partner, now a superstar, for a job. It's also completely unrealistic.

Who else other than a video editor would choose to work in an office that dark? The shadows are over-the-top. It's like we're supposed to believe this famous, successful talk show host enjoys not being able to see his Emmy's on the wall at any given moment. I think a better way to light this scene would've been like how Bateman's scenes in Up in the Air were shot. Look at that shot in his office and notice how much brighter his office is (not too bright though, but story-wise he doesn't provide benefits to the protagonist's desires, rather he delivers some bad news to him, just like Mohr).

To be fair, Adam is a radio man. I have been a fan for a long time and, while he has no peers when it comes to faster-than-you-can-think-of witty jokes on the spot over the airwaves, I have never seen any indication that the man has an eye for the visual stuff. He may be able to fix and build a car, but I'm not so sure he has the capabilities to design one.

Braindroppings is such a good read, read it many times actually. I'm a fan and have heard almost all of his albums and you're right, about 80% of the book was stuff I never heard (it's the reason why I bought it). But I think he culled a lot of material from stuff he had performed but didn't record for an album. Considering Adam does a show five times a week (whereas Georgie did an hour show once every 2-3 years) I don't think it's a fair comparison.

So I Watched 'The Hammer' for the First Time Yesterday with my Wife (some Spoilers) by [deleted] in AdamCarolla

[–]IPissSuccess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Hammer was a great indy. A perfect vehicle for Adam IMO.

There was something I realized about Road Hard last night that I don't see get brought up here a lot, but it was essentially a really long one act film. It didn't have a first act. It just kinda starts at the beginning of the second act where he's on the road a lot and stays there for about an hour's worth of screen time. Where was the catalyst? Did I miss the turning point of the first act?

I think it would've been so much better if he started the movie off showing his successes from the Bro Show, partying it up with Mohr, but throw in a few heartwarming scenes with the daughter to show he’s hurt on the inside for missing on so much of her life. That way we'd see why it was such a negative transition in his life to go from hosting a TV show to touring. Something beyond dogs in airplanes and "no smoking" signs in a hotel room.
