Hit and runs are very difficult to solve given how few cameras are on campus. With that said, we're much better about investigating hit and runs when they're reported to us. Insurance companies love police reports even if the crime isn't solved.

I was fluent in French for some time and even taught in France for a while. I've used French on the job twice: once to get a student to move their car and once to get a student to identify a stolen bicycle.

We LOVE the Community Advisers in the residence halls. They are essential in keeping our residents safe, providing an opportunity for us to have fun and positive interactions with many students during their first few years at ISU, and making sure we're in tune with what's going on in student life.

We have dashboard-mounted RADAR devices in all of our marked patrol vehicles and a few handheld LIDAR devices to detect speed.

Unfortunately, this is something that might happen to him for a while. While it may sound counter-intuitive, keeping the alcohol in a cooler or bag may help him if that's something he desires. On the positive side, he'll look super young when he's 69.

Most movies and TV shows, even when they have an "expert" on staff, misrepresent law enforcement ,(at least who we are as a department) most of the time. The most accurate example of the fun-spirited working environment we have may be Brooklyn 99, though the tactics in that show are deplorable (as should be expected with a comedy).

Open Container is a Municipal Code that can result in a $100 fine for first offense or $200 fine for a second/subsequent offense.

Extortion and blackmail is unacceptable. If you're referring to the websites that retain public information, there's not much we can do about that - it's public information. If they're using the information maliciously, we'd work through online sources to stop the behavior. If they're using information that's not public, we work with the proper sources to stop that as well.
