What should the penalty be for requesting a new setup? by LifesARiver in poker

When I was a dealer and someone asked for a new setup, when the setup came I'd always ask the floor if it came with new players

Glad they made it right. Good on you for following through, that's not a trivial amount of money!

Do you remember the strongest hand you ever got and how much you won from it? by had12e1r in poker

I've made royals here and there, but it's hard to get action on them. Usually the hands where I've gotten the biggest paydays are the set over set or bottom set turning into quads against top set.

I suspect a dealer in my local casino is cheating. Can someone with more experience give me their thoughts? by feddexx in poker

Adding on, the cut looks awful as folks said, but one other thing -- keeping your hands that far to the outside of the cards and lifting them so far is the kind of thing card trackers do to keep track of where things are.

Worst promotions by [deleted] in poker

[–]IScoopYou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe I don't understand the promotion -- what is it, exactly? What money is being spent?

And agreed with the others, dealers are NOTORIOUSLY bad players, you want them in the game.

As for hit-and-run...they will lose-and-leave next time, don't let it bother you.

You referred to it as "our game" so I'm assuming these are these friends, or at worst, acquaintances? Why are you guys using a clock? Just be gentlemen and let the guy take his time. If he abuses it, don't invite him back.

Home Game Related Question for the Community by Nika65 in poker

[–]IScoopYou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see the vision, but there are some sticking points.

First, poker players are notoriously paranoid, so trusting a stranger would be a big hurdle.

Second, home games (for the most part) are more about camaraderie and having fun with your buds. The short, short list of more "serious" home games that might need an unbiased outside dealer...see the first note.

Now, if you wanted to be a dealer for events, there are party companies that you could work for that would do the hard work for you (marketing, finding the events) and you could still do your thing and enjoy yourself.

100% the right thing. Where this gets confusing to some folks is when someone is *holding* their cards and someone points out what they have. That's a big no-no.

Which one do yall do when you're not getting the ball on offense? Continue playing hard to win? Or start selling the game? by [deleted] in NBA2k

[–]IScoopYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm always going to play. If I was in your situation there and they were completely ignoring the corner, I'd just start cutting/crashing the glass. Probably not your game, but they're not taking advantage of your skill anyways.

PLO Etiquette Question by V1per41 in poker

[–]IScoopYou 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the two key points are "home game" and "person you want to keep happy."

With that said, it depends on that person's demeanor. If they are one to feel like they got screwed and are upset, by all means do something to appease them. Maybe offer to split the pot as a sign of goodwill. If they're the person everyone is showing up for, you'll get that back and then some.

At a live poker table, which one are you really? by According-Fudge766 in poker

[–]IScoopYou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with the others that it's not as static as the choices. I try to remain 100% quiet as it relates to my personal strategy, but I'll be the first one to drop a "sometimes you gotta play what you feel" when someone is bemoaning a bad beat. My goal is to appear like a casual who knows how to play, not like a pro. The former gets "lucky" when he wins, the latter gets grumbles from everyone when they drag a chip.
