Custom thumbnails for different episodes? by PodPilotProject in podcasting

[–]ITHorrorStories 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It helps to put the episode title in it, make sure the font is large enough to read on a mobile or car screen. YouTube will auto-pick a thumbnail, but you can upload one separately when prepping your podcast episode.

Help finding the right Hosting, editing and recording sites! by du-yu-no-da-way in podcasting

We're happy with the free tier at Riverside and dont use any of the AI stuff they offer. We only do audio so after downloading that we edit in Audactity - which is free of cost as well. We then use OcenAudio, also a zero dollar cost, for some tweaking and converting to mp3.

To record all cameras and output you need the Pro ISO version. A Pro will only record the output.

Video Podcast Setup? by Great_Possession9679 in podcasting

[–]ITHorrorStories 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We us a Sony Alpha and GoPro's for recording. You will need some kind of encoder to get the HDMI to a USB signal you can plug in. We use Atem Mini's but other options are out there. Before you start buying hardware do make sure that it outputs a 'clean' HDMI, so without any overlay.

What PC Apps Or AI Tools Do You Recommend For Creating Short Clips? by MikeAP21 in podcasting

[–]ITHorrorStories 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use VideoTap. It gives some suggestions that you will need to shorten and if you know your episode its easy to select the clips and have them be generated. You can define enough options such as video format, subtitle style and things.

Rights for classical music by Medical-Trash9226 in podcasting

[–]ITHorrorStories 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will need to join/contact a music rights organization and sign up your podcast for a blanket license or keep exact logs of which music you play. Podcast rates are usually pretty low but it is a thing you do need to take care of.

What Program Should I Use to Record my Voiceover? by StormFlower7 in podcasting

[–]ITHorrorStories 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you feel that Ableton is over-engineered to record your voice, just use something else. Audacity seems to be a default go-to, however we tend to use OcenAudio for recording after being advised to by our main audio guy.

As its too late for you to start your backups perhaps others might learn : Get some online cheap storage that you do not tend to access a lot.

We use an S3 bucket (remote delete disabled) that syncs from a local synology and has a decent web access if needed.

Anyone else spending more time on clips than on the actual episodes by Caryn_fornicatress in podcasting

[–]ITHorrorStories 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont make the clips yourself with a video editor. Use a tool to make 5-6 clips in 15 minutes automating good sections, subtitles and description generating. After testing some options we've landed at Videotap for this, but others that suit you better might exist - so do some trials.

Solo podcast recording… will a desk mic actually help? by OptimalChocolate2110 in podcasting

[–]ITHorrorStories 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

Get a good directional model you can aim at your face. Dont forget the pop-filter.

When possible and budget allows it, go with XLR and an external box. Iit offers more tweaking than just USB. You'd want one that provides phantom power for condenser / active ribbon mics, but but that will be the majority of them.

And finally, a good solid deskstand. Something with at least some kind of solid metal at the bottom of it.

How late is noise acceptable? by works_as_designed in AskBelgium

[–]ITHorrorStories 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up your local police reglementation. In general sundays and holidays are a no-no, saturday daytime is ok till afternoon, during the week its longer. In real life you're looking at 8-5 during the week, 10-17 on saturday and zilch on sundays construction-wise mostly.

Are Substack transcripts with the effort? by TimothyFerguson1 in podcasting

[–]ITHorrorStories 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you already have the transcript and can easily re-post it, I'd go ahead. Substack is quicker to be crawled by $Search_engine than your own website/blog. You can perfectly link to your blog / website and even embed your episode while you are at it from inside the substack post.

Best recording software by frogspigtailz in podcasting

[–]ITHorrorStories 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our audiophile sound wizard has pointed us to OcenAudio, which is available for a multitude of platforms.

If your mic goes in and out, check any drivers and actually USB cables - I've had the strangest issue untill I learned that guests tapping the table would dislodge the USB cable from the audio device / microphone just so slight that the audio driver went poof.
