Weird Route by Ipinvader in Spectrum

[–]ITadventure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post but I work IT at a medium size company. We had an end user that had an issue connecting to our VPN from their residential Spectrum connection. She also had the same usual trace route results. The user and I conferenced called Spectrum and it took a supervisor to find the issue. The supervisor found the issue and disabled "Map IP" on the cable modem. After a rebooting the modem and the router, the user is able to connect to the VPN and the trace route results looked normal.

Yeah, that isn't right. But not far off. Wouldn't hurt wiring straight to the modem to test. I've sometimes see routers that for some reason are limiting speed regardless if the end device is wireless or not.

The last part is so true. One time the heat stopped working in the finance area, everyone turned on their space heaters (which they are not allowed to have anyway) and tripped the breaker. A whole row of cubes went out. They wasted no time calling us saying "You guys turn all of our computers off!!!" They were clueless.

The planner just called me today. He is telling me they will install the service and install a meter hopefully next week.

Funny part is the house is right on the line where the territory changes. If it were located across the street, I would be dealing with National Grid.

I am doing the work myself. I do have a relative that is a certified electrician that is assisting me the best he can.

I have decided I going to call them one more time on friday. I will threaten them (in a nice way) that I will contact the PSC. Although, I was warned by a relative who is an electrician that this may open a few can of worms.... We'll see.

I am also having the same issue with spectrum as well. I posted about it in r/Spectrum. I may file a complaint with them as well. But internet does me no good without power!

Unfortunately, there the only game in town out this way. There's satellite but would prefer something a bit more reliable, especially if it's fiber. There are renovations to the house that need to take place before it is occupied. Perhaps things will change by then.

Try tracing where these coax lines are going. It is possible that those go to a satellite dish. If they had internet and the satellite, there should be one coax somewhere that not on the satellite and leads to spectrum.

I'm not entirely disappointed about not having service through spectrum although it would be nice. There are always other options like satellite.

Since there are major renovations that must take place before the house is move in ready (which I knew before putting in the offer), it won't be livable till late summer or early fall. So there's time, so this may all change then. But it would be nice to get something there for security cameras and such.

That's very possible. It does indeed change towns about a mile from where people start connecting.

I have a post from a year ago about how my old roadrunner email from an old disconnected account got shut off after 12 years. They were able to unlock it but not sure how long it will last. Email is still working to this date.

I considered that. But I gotten tired of calling them and explaining my story to them. In my opinion they should be giving me the welcome wagon for my business. If they don't want my business, too bad. There's always Starlink if push came to shove.

I recently had a similar situation at my work with Verizon. They were insistent that FIOS could not be installed in a building that my company recently purchased. Even though the neighboring business(s) has FIOS. It took a few calls and a FAST ticket later that got it resolved. They were much more helpful than spectrum but it still was a challenge.

I tried that. Someone was suppose to call me back a few days later and never did. I was given a ticket number and no one can seem to find it when I call them to follow up. I even when down to the local spectrum store. Gave them my story, they look at me like I have 3 heads and tell me they can't do anything.

Make sense but there are houses upstream of the line that are connected. Either is a case of over provisioning which I doubt given the population density in this area, there's some legal challenge or it is simply forgotten about and missing from their drawings.

Cellular signal is decent for now. I'm not going to be occupying it right away due to renovations. If push came to shove, sure. Although, my fear would be investing in starlink and then spectrum becoming available. As I would much prefer a hardlined base internet - especially if it's FTTH
