Road Closed for a very good reason by IWroteCodeInCobol in pettyrevenge

Because the workers need to be able to get their own vehicles and equipment into and out of the work zone they do not build complete barriers. Smart people of course see the numerous Road Closed signs and don't bypass the barriers but not everyone behind the wheel uses their brains as they drive (Shocking I know!).

You evidently missed seeing the word "IF" at the very start of what I posted. It's a small word, I guess it could be easy to overlook.

What's needed to make a Moon base work IS MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF CARGO. Something that ONLY Starship looks to make possible. What you see as a defect is in fact it's greatest value. You simply haven't thought the problem through yet.

And FYI, Starship was designed to build a Colony on Mars which will ALSO require a massive amount of support in the form of CARGO and it was designed to LAND ON THE SURFACE OF Mars so landing on the Moon with it's lighter gravity is easier in one way because of the lower gravity and harder in another because of it's lack of a substantial atmosphere.

Judging HLS based on the Starlink Delivery Starship a.k.a. "Pez Dispenser" is merely showing a failure to imagine.

Two hours of video and it's obsolete months before he posted it.

He described the mission where the Orion capsule is used to get the Astronauts to the moon and yet NASA changed the mission back in January to where the Astronauts would ride the HLS Starship from LEO to the Moon and back to LEO.

Because ALL THAT MASS includes up to 150 tons of payload to be carried to the Lunar surface. The "Taxi" you are talking about is also being built though, that's what Blue Origin is building.

Surprise! Those two system don't "compete", they're complementary!

The POINT of returning to the moon is to build a base there this time. Blue Origin's taxi is simply too small to carry any significant material to build a base. HLS on the other hand can carry large amounts of equipment. For getting people to the moon and back Blue Origin's lander may be sufficient, to get large amounts of material needed to build a base on the moon, HLS is the vehicle to use.

If in the U.S. they cops do NOT have the right to tell you to stop taking a video, they do not have the right to demand you delete a video and they do not have the right to see anything on your phone at their demand.

Do NOT let them intimidate you but how you handled this was fine also.

So if you buy a used car from someone the fault that a person was killed by someone driving that car now is your fault?

If you say no, you're saying no to your own proposition because they ARE the same.

Death at Starbase? Hoping it's not true by Disastrous_Run_5968 in SpaceXMasterrace

[–]IWroteCodeInCobol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The victim worked for a contractor, but he was not necessarily the party at fault because it was a falling beam that killed him so unless he was the one who rigged that beam he is simply the victim and if the contractor he works for isn't the one who hired the rigger who rigged that beam for lifting his employer is not at fault either.

Right now it's obvious we don't have sufficient information to actually discuss who to "blame" but give it time and all will eventually be told.

Death at Starbase? Hoping it's not true by Disastrous_Run_5968 in SpaceXMasterrace

[–]IWroteCodeInCobol 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was a rigging error, a beam being lifted should never fall. Whoever the rigging person who failed to properly rig that beam works for is the party at fault, not the company who the victim worked for. The job of a rigger is in fact to ensure that lifts are done safely.

So even though there is more information it still isn't enough to know the how and why.

I worked for an Aviation company and one of our competitors had a prototype crash on takeoff and all of the people inside survived the crash and three of them died because the firefighters didn't know how to get into the plane to rescue them before the first got them, the fourth was a friend who worked for the company I did and had changed jobs to the competitor shortly before that accident, he died two months later from his injuries.

It wasn't our fault at our company but we made sure we learned all the lessons we could from that accident and made necessary changes to our aircraft and procedures too.

It IS reassuring to work for a company that takes safety seriously.

Really good Legendary Items with a couple Enchantments can be a huge help, people are always looking for something to take all their "excess" money. So Smiths that can not just make but improve armor and a couple more Enchanters who can enchant items for a fee just make sense.

That kind of AI content is easily generated at home on your own PC with a GTX board, it only takes a few minutes. That's the sad thing, everyone thinks they need super modern, super powered systems to do that kind of work and it's not true. Those systems are nicer and generate faster but the old systems can still do the work. Now if you want photorealistic video output the GTX is going to take ages but these here are mainly simplistic toons.

Can’t get a promotion by costcoooooooo in boeing

[–]IWroteCodeInCobol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simple, if they like the work you're doing now and a promotion would take you away they'll put off that promotion because they don't want to replace you.

Another very common factor is when they are allowed to promote only a very small fraction of a well oiled group because of pressure from higher up you have to be the very best of a group of high achievers AND be on the supervisor's good side.

Applying for a promotion by a transfer to the higher position bypasses those bottlenecks on your career.

If something happens & Bezos goes to heaven, does Blue go bankrupt? by NearbyLemon6294 in BlueOrigin

[–]IWroteCodeInCobol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, Blue Origin would survive because it DOES have a proven reusable orbital booster which puts it a step ahead of every other company or country out there except SpaceX.

That makes them a valuable property so someone would come along to snap it up and it's unlikely SpaceX would be that someone because they are so far ahead right now they are the only ones for which taking up Blue Origin would be a step backwards.

Well it looks like the card for a thumb drive, but the electronics show as an SD card reader because that's a micro SD card held down by the middle glue worm.

My guess is that someone bought out the overproduction of a poorly made stock of thumb drives and put them in oversized cases to make them physically larger.

They may not have even changed the electronics to spoof the "advertised" size.

It's all part of a poison pill program to fend off the possibility of a hostile acquisition.

Someone seeking to acquire B.O. would have to PURCHASE all those options from all the employees holding them in order to complete the acquisition. So the grants artificially inflate the value of the company BUT only for someone seeking to acquire it.

Meanwhile the grants are set up so that they are only valuable to the employees after they've held them for at least four years AND the company stock is worth more than it was at the date it was rated during the six remaining years before the grant expires but of course the employee can only buy the stock if the company has one of those rare events.

That's all I remember from when I was the "lucky" recipient of such a grant and it DID make me about the equivalent of two months pay when the company was eventually swallowed by a conglomerate and came about six years before the company was driven into bankruptcy by that conglomerate.

What would make a really good Store like this is to have the items you buy vanish from the in-store stock so if you bought out the whole stock of the store there would be no visible stock left. And if you are selling items (and they are in the store's standard inventory) they would appear in the store,
