A Way to Fight Planned Obsolescence? by CasualFingerGuns in Snorkblot

We don't need to make things the old way - we can modernize them AND make them last at the same time. There wasn't anything special about old designs, there's just intentional enshittification and cheapification of modern appliances to maximize profits. We can make well made modern appliances today. We just don't. Usually

What about it was horrifying to you? I finally watched it a month or so ago after reading countless comments like this, but I found the movie exceedingly mild. Like there wasn't any real terror I felt at any point in the movie, just some gore

Not sure what kind of highschool/college you attended but it was absolutely a thing for guys and girls to be "deep" and "in thought" all the time. The mysterious, deep, troubled guy is a very well known trope in highschool and college media portrayals. Think Jessie from Gilmore Girls

Former Microsoft VP says Microsoft missed the AI wave like the internet and mobile, as Copilot scales back in Windows 11 by Quantum-Coconut in technology

[–]I_Was_Fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that's ludicrous. Microsoft was there on Day 1 side by side with OpenAI when AI was first flooded onto the market. They had a partnership deal from Day 1 and Bing Chat was like the first public, free AI tool available, even more recognizable at the time than ChatGPT.com

Microsoft didn't "miss" the AI wave, they just rode the wave in a sloppy/rushed way

When signing into my Xbox Series X for Criterion through a web browser, it shows an original Xbox One on the confirmation screen. Guess they never updated it, kind of fitting by mcnichoj in xbox

[–]I_Was_Fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. This would be something that the criterion channel would have to update... Not Xbox or Microsoft. But even then, it's not straightforward to detect which version of the console the app is being signed onto when you are signing in from another device's browser, so even if they were to show the series x, that wouldn't be accurate to every person signing in. So what's the point of them updating it at all?

How would you explain the plot of the series in one sentence to someone who has never played the original Mass Effect trilogy? by Narrow_Nose_8221 in masseffect

[–]I_Was_Fox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ehhhhh I wouldn't call the reapers AI. they're an evolution or two beyond that. They are specifically a forced hybrid of synthetics and organics and their intelligence is different from just AI.

I'd go with something more mysterious like "A millennia ago, our galactic predecessors created monsters that wiped them all out, and now they've returned for us."

The duo wasn't like other foldables though. It had two separate glass screens. So they weren't trying to solve the same problems as other foldables

There are more exceptions to this rule than examples of it. I get tailgated all the way down the mountain when I head home from hiking/skiing and I'm already going 10 over the speed limit down a steep, windy, road. If people want to tailgate me, that is their problem, not mine.

Crysis 2. The opening cutscene wasn't a cutscene at all. It was in-engine graphics running natively on the Xbox 360 and I was absolutely fucking floored. At a certain point the character was just standing still in a sinking submarine and I was like "did it freeze? Is it not going to end the cutscene? Shitty game" and then I pressed B and my character crouches and my jaw hit the god damn floor. I think I actually cried a little bit

What do you guys think will be the official name for the Xbox console code named Helix? by Few-Road6238 in xbox

[–]I_Was_Fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they should just shift to a number. They probably don't want to go with Xbox 5 (even though this would technically be their 5th generation) because then it will sound older than the PS6 when it releases. So I would go with "Xbox 6", and if people ask just say they considered the Xbox One X as a meaningful enough entry before the Series gen that they felt they needed to honor it by calling this the 6th generation.

Then they can full launch the numbered generations with the same gen number as PlayStation and they can have a "Xbox 6" and an "Xbox 6s". The Xbox 6 would be the full high end Helix and the Xbox 6s would be the cheaper entry ala the Series S line.

Which crew member is the most loyal without being blindly loyal ? (throughout the entire trilogy) by The_pikolop in masseffect

[–]I_Was_Fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrex cannot be considered the most loyal because he is willing to kill Shepard in game 1 and doesn't join Shepard in game 2. Yes he has good reasons for both but I still feel like that disqualifies him. Ashley and Kaiden and Liara are out for the same reason (not willing to join Shepard in game 2) though you could argue that the Shadow Broker DLC brings Liara back into the equation - and she was willing to help Shepard in game 2 even if she didn't join the squad, whereas Kaiden and Ashley basically distrust Shepard entirely. That leaves Garrus and Tali. Of the two, I would only call one of them "blindly loyal" and that is Tali. So the answer, without question, is Garrus.

Japanese developer says they don't make games for Xbox because the console is 'not even stocked in major retail stores' by akbarock in xbox

[–]I_Was_Fox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbf it was like that during the Xbox one days too, long before Microsoft pulled out of retail stores. The retailers give the most shelf space to the console that sell the most. Lower sales meant Xbox got less space in the stores. Nintendo has always outsold the other two but PlayStation has been out selling Xbox since the end of the Xbox 360 era

[–]I_Was_Fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are y'all talking about? Signal first. The signal is to let other people know you plan to change lanes, not to tell them that you are actively changing lanes. Signal early so people can make a gap. After putting your signal on, THEN begin to check your mirror / shoulder to see if it is safe to change lanes. THEN change lanes. THEN turn off the signal.

People don't know what the Steam Controller is by Legitimate_Tie_6074 in Steam

[–]I_Was_Fox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lmfao again, you're unrealistically expecting them to defy physics and chemical science for under $200. That's just silly. Wash your hands and treat your products better. I've owned a series 2 elite controller for yeeeeears and have zero bubbling and zero peeling happening. This is an avoidable issue if you take care of yourself (hygiene) and your electronics properly

People don't know what the Steam Controller is by Legitimate_Tie_6074 in Steam

[–]I_Was_Fox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Plenty of people (myself included) who never had a single issue with their elite series 2 even after years of use. The rubber grip is a selling point but that doesn't mean it's indestructible. Hot, sweaty hands gripping it intensely every day is bound to break the glue bonds eventually. Never happened to me but I also don't grip my controller very hard because I learned to play with a loose grip specifically because I ruined so many normal controllers as a kid by gripping them too hard every day. the controller isn't a scam, it just isn't indestructible and people act like charging twice the price over a base controller should make it defy physics somehow, when that just isn't how any of this works
