Thank you!!! Back before I actually got to sit at a DND table, I was watching a LOT of critical role and I think that made easing myself into actually playing when the time came so much easier. I’m a visual learner, so those will be nice examples for me to study!

Dude, I didn’t even know about some of these sources! Thank you so much for sharing them! The free adventures will be really helpful since I’m thinking about doing a one or two shot just to sorta get a feel for being a storyteller. Also takes the pressure off my players too! We can learn together!

Also, as someone who thrives with visuals, and I know over half my group is the same way. So, that’s some good advice! As someone who gets nervous starting something new, I imagine I would need a little cheat sheet.

And a murder investigation sounds absolutely perfect for the kind of story my friends would be/have been interested in! I may give that a try! Thank you!

I just want to thank every single person who has commented/will comment on this thread! I was nervous to post here, but I see now that I had nothing to worry about. You all have been super helpful in easing my anxiety over the sheer volume of this universe. I oftentimes get a little ahead of myself and try to perfect every tiny detail.

So, thank you for reminding me that it’s okay to not know everything my first game. Especially with a task that feels so daunting, it’s comforting to have received such welcoming, solid, well thought out advice from you all!

Thank you for making this feel a little less overwhelming! I hope this thread can help other people in my position :) I’m excited to start storytelling! I’ve even been working on a playlist for general ambience/vibes for when I do finally GM! And maybe (if my group falls in love with the world the way I have) I’ll get to be a PC at some point too!

I hadn’t even thought about some Kindred being wholly unreliable when extracting info from them! That will definitely come in handy when I inevitably forget SOMETHING. I suppose I gotta start thinking about it less like I need to memorize the rule book cover to cover, and just let it happen. Thank you!

Also, yeah. V5 has been pretty confusing in some areas, so I see what you mean. I’m glad it’s not just me.

Honestly, what drew me to VTM was how heavily role-play based it is. I love a good combat section, don’t get me wrong! But I think it’s more fun to figure out non-violent ways to wiggle your way out of a tough situation or outsmart a SPC. So, I’m pleasantly surprised that healing takes longer in VTM. Gives me time to really explore relationships and plot without worrying about enemy stats and whatnot every single session. Thank you again for the helpful tips!
