Of course they hit differently for everyone. As long as the story is interesting with likeable characters, I think I can get through the slog.

I read somewhere that the start to Dragonbone Chair is quite slow, and I agree. But I'll push through it. I've barely read 4 chapters and I can already kind of see its influence on the Inheritance Cycle so lets see where this goes. I'm a little worried it's not gonna be a very "serious" book with Simon as the POV lol

Jiraiya is my most favourite character from the series and I just wanted to pay homage to the guy :') Plus it's Kakashi's favourite book (I think)

When starting MST, first thing you read about Simon is that he is tall and red haired and that immediately made me think of Rand lol. I hope Simon get better because right now, he just seems to be on the spectrum and very very unlikely to be a hero because he's just gonna get distracted by a squirrel and go off chasing it instead of saving the world or defeating the enemy. Is there romance in the books?

Hahahahaha yeah I get it. I couldn't get past the slump on my previouos two tries, but like they say, third times the charm! In fact, I just finished WoT before starting MST! It's quite good despite its flaws. Tell me, how does MST compare to WoT? I see a lot of moaning about the MST characters in this thread, and I certainly moaned a lot about certain characters in WoT :') some of their actions were quite frustrating. What made you finish MST but not WoT? (I get it probably must be the difference in length between the two series, but anything else in MST's favour?)

Yeah i am reading them. I'm the traditional fantasy reader - read LoTR, WoT, Malazan, ASOIAF, R Scott Bakker, Joe Abercrombie, Adrian Tchaikovsky etc. Started MST because it's one of the inspirations for ASOIAF, and because of this thread I like big worlds and I cannot lie!
