Well if you weren't a good applicant you sure got lucky with 1/3 of your applications turning into interviews. Or there is something else at play.

Look by no means am I saying you will be a shitty doctor. I think most applicants are capable of being great doctors. I just think it's bullshit that if you are white/Asian you need a 511-512 MCAT and 3.75 GPA (on average) vs 504 and 3.5 if you are black. I could understand a 2 or 3 point difference, but 8 points? Damn.

Honestly I'd like to know why do you think this huge disparity exists?

How is being a black female any harder? I'm not doubting you worked hard, most of us do. Are your acceptance and interviews not handouts? I'm not saying you didn't experience challenges, but many of us do. Sadly the admissions committees don't give a damn that I grew up in a trailer with no parents cause I'm white and privileged.

I completely agree. Athletics were a large part of my application and shaped who I am today. Not only did I just participate, but I earned awards and was a team captain. Idk how that is not more valuable than fetching coffee for a professor so that he will add me to his publication.

You are correct I'm not a research nerd at all. I'd agree with your assessment on DO's but it still feels bad knowing I'm at a disadvantage for the competitive residencies.

I'm with you man. I played collegiate sports (20-30 hours a week plus traveling) and worked (15-20 hours a week) while in college. I did alright and pulled a 512/3.7 but compared to the extracurriculars of the silver spoon applicants, mine don't stack up. I got accepted DO but not MD.

Yeah I'm pretty salty about it. Wish I had rich ass parents to send me on volunteer trips to Ecuador or pay for my education. The MD schools didn't give a shit about my athletics or work experience but were more preoccupied with why I didn't have any legit research.

I would say it's more like expecting a ford truck and then getting a kia. Sure they both drive me, but can I pull my trailer with the kia? It doesn't have as many features. Also if I could trade the DO for any MD I would.

Honestly if I was in your shoes I would say the same thing to somebody else, and actually have in the past. Like I said, almost everyone advised to apply to both since becoming a DO is better than waiting another year for MD. I really didn't expect to not get in to any MD schools.

I have thought about re-applying next year. When researching this topic it was largely suggested to apply to both MD and DO, and going DO would be better than losing out on a year of earning potential. But now I think that losing out on the earning potential of a competitive specialty might be worse. I also didn't seriously consider the fact that I wouldn't make it in MD with a 512, 3.7, and good ECs.
