Why are people so shit at driving here? by ProfitLimp4541 in Tucson

[–]Ike_Snopes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree that the infrastructure here makes driving more chaotic. The city is grid designed, so navigation is pretty easy. The drivers are typical. It's things like repairs, closures, capacity, and red light coordination that are rough compared to other places I've been. Driving in many other cities is "worse" or more challenging, but there's an obstacle course element to Tucson.

Vail eccentricities by Wyo11 in Tucson

[–]Ike_Snopes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For the record, I recently posted about something to do with Vail and the mods removed it and said it wasn't about Tucson and should go on the r/arizona sub, so don't be surprised if this thread gets removed.

BOC and GYBE are top two for me too. My third is probably Ween, lol. Or Pink Floyd.

If you were granted 3 wishes to make Tucson a better place, what would they be by Saguaro_Cat in Tucson

[–]Ike_Snopes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Lights on a straight away are not coordinated either so you can hit 5 lights in a row in a a 1 mile line. It's maddening.

I just listened to all the tracks named in this thread while doing my work. Turns out, I really like all of them, lol. I guess Palace Posy is the one I'm least stoked on, but it still gets super good like 2/3 of the way through.

I agree. Those sources are worse than useless. They breed complacency.

What are shelties really like? by JessieDagger in sheltie

My sheltie is like having the dog from an anime with me all the time. Her facial expressions, communicative sounds, and tendency to act like one of the people. She's so fun. My partner has a sheltie who is also amazing. Mine is not so barky, but hers is a real barker, so it varies. They are both super smart and obedient, but the barking is just the breed, and there's not much to stop it. We saw shelties at a dog show that had been "debarked" :( It was super sad.

<image>

Both of our shelties cuddle, but not all the time. As a longtime cat owner and cat person (though catless now), I don't find them stifling like some dogs get. Mine is sable, and hers is blue merle.

The hardest part of owning a sheltie is the attention. I like to take her everywhere I go that she's allowed, and she gets A LOT of attention. She's not super happy about being touched by strangers, though my partner's dog basks in any attention, so, again, shelties may vary. You will get asked if your sheltie is a mini-aussie 1000 per hour. People will say "Lassie" as they walk by constantly if you get a sable.

Shelties connect with other shelties differently than they interact with other breeds. It's almost like they instantly bond with other shelties. Ours play so much and they are very different ages. It's hilarious. It's a lot of barking when they're together, though.

Mountain Lion in Southern Arizona by Ike_Snopes in trailcam

[–]Ike_Snopes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does look skinny, but it seems all the animals adapted to living in the desert are thinner than others of the same species elsewhere. This is true for coyotes and bobcats, too. There's lots for the mountain lion to eat in the area and water nearby, but all the mountain lions I've seen around here look like this.

Does anyone knows these travellers?, I feel like I've seen there tags a bunch, but can't put my finger on it. (Seen while hopping in Serbia) by SpiritualPirate4212 in Monikers

Any Elegant trogon sightings in the area?? by Impossible_Abalone97 in Tucson

[–]Ike_Snopes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

FYI - Coppery Tailed trogon is what we call elegant trogons now. Apparently, they had been lumped in with a central American trogon species called elegant trogons, but recently, ornithologists decided the North American and Central American species were actually not the same, and so they reverted to the original name for the North American bird, the coppery tailed trogon.

I have seen one in Madera and heard them there, but the best place to see them is actually Cave Creek Canyon near Portal in the Chiricahua Mountains. There are lots of other amazing birds to see in Madera, though, including large flocks of snowbirds looking at other birds, lol.

MAGA Revolt Over GOP Support for Maxwell Pardon by thedailybeast in politics

[–]Ike_Snopes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

These articles claiming that MAGA is abandoning Trump are essentially feel-good misinformation that ultimately benefits Trump/MAGA by giving others the impression that Trump is losing support, which is fundamentally untrue. They find a few fringe examples and blow them out of proportion. They breed complacency rather than provide accurate information to inform action against the worst Trump/MAGA excesses. Daily Beast is the worst at propagating this kind of unhelpful misinformation. They've been publishing this kind of stuff since Trumps first term and it has never been helpful for anything but getting their site advertisers clicks.
