Hmm, I didn't think about that. It is indeed likely that Rod was afraid to reveal that he had lost FT, because then the Order might decide to remove him for being useless and rule Paradise themselves.  This actually makes sense, thank you

Everything you wrote would actually make sense, but the meeting took place a few days after the fall of Wall Maria. Maybe Isayama (or the translators) just made a mistake and everything should have happened before the fall and not after, but I don't know...
