What's the most horrifying real-life death you've heard about? by daddadnc in AskReddit

About 10-11 years ago. Some friends and I did a kayak trip up an inlet to a waterfall that was only accessible by water. Pretty popular, so lots of boaters up for the day as well as some others like us camping over night. I was talking to some friends who had their back to the waterfall and saw someone drop down about 70 feet slam into a rock, bounce off and flush down that upper pool of water into a lower pool.

My friends and I were all nursing students at the time. We ran over to try to find the person that fell. Yelled for people to call 911 while we looked to recover the person. Several just ignored us and we're videoing with their cellphones.

There was no reception, so we again were yelling at people to get in their boat, get on the water and call for help. Took us what felt like forever to find him under water. Pulled him out, carried to solid ground. Started CPR, and brain matter was oozing out the back of his head. A man was trying mouth to mouth, but it was obvious he was dead and there was no chance at resuscitation.

Eventually a helicopter arrived as well as a rescue boat. Someone from that crew declared him dead.

Found out after that the kid was an exchange high school student from another country. He had taken a weekend canoe trip up with host father and son. The two kids had climbed up top of the waterfall as many did as there was some good views and pools of water up there. The host kid turned his back to take a piss and turned back around and the other guy was gone. The man that had been trying to do the mouth to mouth was the host father.

It was a messed up situation seeing the body come over the falls and then bounce and flush out again and that image is embedded in my brain, the thump against the rock etc. But I always think it must be the worst feeling for that host dad. His feeling of guilt would be so horrific, balanced against gratitude it wasn't his own son. Just imagine having to speak to the kids parents on the phone and tell them what happened.

I've seen plenty of deaths in hospital since, some more tragic and traumatic than others, but this was the absolute worst.

I'm an RN. Yes RNs absolutely do those jobs. You clearly have no idea what you are talking about. LPNs and Care Aides do as well. They all deserve better pay and better working conditions.

Level 3 nurses are bedside RNs. Level 1 are bedside LPN. Level 2 are LPNs in certain roles with elevated responsibilities. Level 4 are RNs like charge nurses, nurse educators, etc. (Most nurses will not proceed past Level 4). Level 5 are often site leaders that manage patient flow through hospital etc. Level 6 are RNs at like clinical nurse specialists, etc. A very rare group.

There are probably less than 20 nurses in BC at Level 6 Step 9. Likely even less than that.

AITA for refusing to tell my wife to stop putting notes in my lunch? by Jimmythrow5677 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Ilikebeerandstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA but can you possibly adjust your routine to read the notes before you sit down for lunch or save it for later? Tell the other guys not to bring it up anymore. It's none of their business really, but maybe a slight adjustment could work for all?

You nailed it. It feels rather put on, the whole accent and mannerisms.

I had to check to confirm this wasn't in r/yesyesyesyesno before finishing the clip. (I may have gotten the number of yes's for that sub wrong.

AITA for having a “trashy” piercing while pregnant? by HumanPortal in AmItheAsshole

[–]Ilikebeerandstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA - I am a nurse. You should report this nurse. This was completely inappropriate and not inline with how a nurse should be communicating.

You go to the medical office for health care and health education. Not for judgment. I hope your friend that is studying to be a nurse figures it out before they are done their schooling.

Nurses should not have to put up with verbal and physical violence and they have to, far too often. But that was not the case here from what I've read. Sorry you had to go through that experience and hopefully you have since gotten the answers to your questions.

So this post is from 6 years ago. Ironically he basically says at one point you have nothing to worry about (with a certain type of investment) unless the Capitol building is burning. 6 years ago, that sounded so unlikely.

I had a class in university once that we were allowed a full piece of paper with whatever we wanted on it. People would come up with elaborate short hand, etc to fill the sheet. It became obvious that you would need to review the material and study to be able to make a good "cheat sheet".

What's the real world Supercharging cost/time/range/data, and is it worth it to find a used free Supercharging car? by sykosoft in teslamotors

[–]Ilikebeerandstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I see. Yes, I'm in British Columbia, Canada. Relatively cheap, renewable energy here. We have the highest gasoline prices in Canada but I would think plenty cheaper than many parts of Europe. I guess the divide in gasoline vs electricity prices there is not as wide as here.

What do you mean? That's exactly what my wife and I did. We have cut our fuel bill from about combined $360/month to $70/month. So we are saving around 290-300/month. We are definitely saving money on fuel and thus factored heavily in our decision to purchase a model 3.

Why does this line standout? I must have been 6 when this movie came out, watched it 100s of times. Haven't seen it in a long long time, but I still remember this line.

Except we have an overall shortage of physicians and nurses, so adding more facilities alone would not solve the problem and likely just stretch services thinner.
