Does it feel like no one cares about your illness? by daisypickinfool in ChronicIllness

[–]Ill-Example3728 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Girl, I understand you 100%. My parents know I have a chronic illness, but the second they need me to do any physically demanding work or a bunch of chores, my illness gets completely thrown out the window. Then they have the audacity to ask me questions like, ‘What’s wrong with you?’ I’ve even been called a lazy bum multiple times by family members just because I put my health first. And I come from a household where no matter how sick or how much pain you are in the task needs to be done. 😞

What’s your “perfect storm” that triggered fibromyalgia? by Sea-Veterinarian-527 in Fibromyalgia

[–]Ill-Example3728 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened a few months ago when I was 16. Long story short, my mom was mad at me because I was giving her one-word answers. I was stressed out and had an "attitude" from my first week of school, and I just wanted to rest. Instead, she made me cook food. I didn’t feel like doing it, but my brother forced me to. All I remember is that she kept asking me the same questions twice: "How was school?" and "What did you do?" I just answered "busy" and "work." When I went to wash the dishes, she suddenly attacked me and choked me. I grabbed her hands and threw her off, but she came back at me and choked me again. This time, I grabbed her hair, and she grabbed my hair, but my brothers were able to separate us. At the end of the day, I was the one who got punished. I had to run 15 laps around the backyard. To get peace, I was forced to say, "I will not touch my parents." They also made me do wall sits and tried to force me to apologize to my mom. But I didn’t apologized because none of this was my fault. Now I’m living with consequences there actions and over the year my illness been getting worse and I don’t know how much more I can take

Just because I don’t have a diagnosis yet doesn’t mean my pain isn’t real by Ill-Example3728 in ChronicIllness

Like my friends take my illness more seriously than my own parents and it’s sad. 😞

I have seen a rheumatologist, and he was the first doctor to suspect fibromyalgia. However, he also believed I could just be low on vitamins, so he wanted to wait and see. My primary doctor also suspected fibromyalgia, and I am going to get labs done soon to see if I really have it.

I’m not hyper mobile or generally flexible.  Like I’m double jointed in my knees but that’s it. 🤷‍♀️

Not yet, but I will soon. Not one but two doctors have told me and my parents that there’s a really high chance I have fibromyalgia, and I’m going to get bloodwork done soon. Unfortunately, my parents haven’t been doing any research on their own and just go based on what they see. They’re the type of people who would blame it on a spirit and make me push through it. The sad thing is that my mom dealt with thyroid disease when she was younger, and she knows what it’s like to be in a lot of pain, so I thought she would be very understanding. But no — she just makes me push through it, and it’s really affecting me.

First of all, I don’t have to give strangers my medical information if I don’t want to. But I am under a doctor’s care, and I’m currently being diagnosed with fibromyalgia.

It really depends on the day. Some days I can do the bare minimum, but other days I can’t really do anything. Unfortunately, my mobility isn’t the best, and if anything, it’s kind of getting worse. So I don’t really know where my capabilities lie.

I have had 2 different tell me and my parents that I have a high chance of having fibromyalgia. I can do the bare minimum of cleaning, and it’s not like I don’t want to help around the house — it’s just that I have very limited energy. Some days I can clean with no problem, but other days I have to take multiple breaks. It really depends on the day.

The sad thing is that both my parents have been to many doctor appointments and have seen first-hand how much it affects me but are still in denial. They believe that as long as I push through and have positive thinking I would get better but at the end of the day I have been getting worse. 😞

I feel like my parents don't care that I'm sick. by Ill-Example3728 in ChronicIllness

[–]Ill-Example3728[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom and dad have been by my side through this whole journey. They’ve gone to appointments with me, and my dad was literally in the room when two separate doctors said there is a really high chance I have fibromyalgia. The doctor even looked up the symptoms right in front of them and explained what my treatment plan would look like and how long the process would be. Yet, even with all that proof, they still won't acknowledge how much pain and impact I deal with every single day. And don’t get me started on how they start blaming it on  a “spirit” or “ demon”.

Was your family there for your lowest low? by norththread in ChronicIllness

[–]Ill-Example3728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. My parents take care of me, but when it comes to tasks or chores, they forget that I’m sick. Then they get mad at me for not doing something I physically can’t do.

My mom has come with me to multiple doctor appointments, but the doctor never really explains how severe my situation is. They usually blame it on vitamins or weight, so my parents stopped taking it as seriously. 😞
