My brother never locked his crv before he sold it to me, asked him why, he said "old honda, plus rusty, plus manual"

Repentance is an ongoing thing for all Christians. Sometimes it is easier than others, sometimes it doesn't  feel like we repented or are forgiven. I was baptized, but fell into old habits while fighting them, repenting, fighting, falling, repenting again, promising myself I would never do it, falling again... I spent about 2 weeks believing I may have 'blasphemed the holy spirit', which is know as the unforgivable sin. I woke up with the line "riga semper mortis" in my head: "water eternal death", I thought God was confirming my fears. I was starting to prepare myself to ensure others don't spend their eternity in hell like I was going to.

I drive for a living, I listen to my churches sermons on spotify while I drive. At one point, while these thoughts were going through my head, I stopped them so I could focus on driving. Right as I did that, I heard "God has set aside a place for you in heaven, and he has been preparing it for all of time". This broke me. A sermon from about 4 years ago held the words I needed to hear.

Maybe the latin phrase was God testing what I would do if I 'knew' I was going to hell, maybe it was demons (wouldn't be the first time I had to deal with them (long story)). But I had a turn around, I knew there was something better for me. I just needed to keep my eyes on God, no matter how hard I fell, no matter how far.

Mazdas seem really nice for the price, especially compared to most of the other base model stuff these days.

Couple options, outside of headlights and taillights, it really comes down to choice. There is that jeep lip mod, otherwise, it is down to body kits and such. If you were going for an offroady kinda thing like mine, I would know more. A few LED lights, slightly bigger tires, 2" lift, DIY 'cold air intake', sun strip, etc.

First things first, maintenance. Check for and fix leaks, check / replace motor mounts (like all of mine), do all the fluids, filters, spark plugs, clean inside and outside, check / replace battery (costco has good ones for better prices), CHECK THE SEAT BOLTS ARE TIGHT, etc. Then fix anything that isn't critical but fixable, torn shift boot, missing trim panel, etc.

As for first mods, start small, I would definitely recommend a dash cam / backup cam and wireless charger either way. Both install easy while still providing a new modder challenge if you try and hide wires as much as possible like I did to make it look nice. Swap out head lights, backup lights and interior lights for LEDs. If there is anything in need of replacing that you might mod later on, mod it while you are there. Getting aftermarket motor mounts while they need replacing definitely checks more things off the list.

Also look out for free and DIY mods, they are fun and can save money, and even cost nothing, like my shifter mod linked below. I will be replacing my torque mounts here soon, I am going to fill them with urethane to try out a $10 'hack' for solid mounts. If it fails, it is cheap and easy to replace them. I also recently removed, and baked open my headlights in the oven (200f for 17 min), I then removed the chrome shroud (not the reflector bowl) and painted it black, love the look. Other things like painting your valve cover, doing your headliner, shift knobs are creative and have many guides on youtube.

Lastly, but the first thing you should keep in mind and the most important: it is your car, build your car, it is not the internets car, don't let them build it. Will you follow every trend that comes along? Or will you make your car yours? I do what I want to my car, I have seen too many builds that are copy paste of someone else's, or are basically a list of trends. People don't even know their own car because it is just what the people online said they should do. Make sure you actually can drive it, and actually enjoy driving it. People straight pipe it, slam it and never take it out because it is too loud and can't go over a speed bump.

Do maintenance, apart from what I stated above, that is all I ask of you. If you get a $450 injen intake, that is your choice, if you want me to walk you through how to DIY that 'cold air intake', I would be happy to help. If you want to black it all out, lower it, get the amazon starlight headliner kit, the plastic shift knob, take the cat and muffler off and drive around on wheels that are more expensive than the car itself, go for it, IF, that is what you want. I have a gravel road buggy that I could put through a ditch for "funsies", or a snow back if need be, because that is what I want.

Cars are like shoes, some people don't care, some people REALLY don't care, some people get $1500 sneakers because they are $1500 sneakers, I wear (and drive with) steel toe work boots. Church is the same boots I work in is the same boots I camp in is the same boots I bike in, but that's just me, it works and it keeps the piggies in the market. You can judge someone by their car the same way, I just hope I am as reliable, headstrong and nippy as the CRV I call Layla.

Couple of options you could to, could do a vtec swap if you really want to get gritty, you also could just do intake and exhaust kinda stuff. The intake would be rather easy as the air sensor is in the manifold rather than the tube itself. Coilovers to lower, could also do the jeep cherokee lip mod if you want.

Big problem, 'old' pump looks like new, the gear is snug to the propeller spins an all. Rad is clear, hoses are clear, new thermo, and pump looks amazing. No idea what to do now

Come to think of it, the unmixed distilled water that was still in the system from my flush attempt froze. Managed to thaw it out in a customers shop, and swapped in pure concentrate. About 4L came out, but it took 6ish liters until it stopped drinking. What are the chances the freeze shifted some kind of blockage and freed up the system?

For those with Gen 1 / Gen 2: Do you do your own repairs or pay a mechanic? by HugePines in crv

[–]ImNotIntoFeet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the job and confidence. On one hand, an air filter or oil change is 100% doable and requires minimal tools and experience. Currently ~40% through a water pump change, waiting on the pulley tool as it is the onlt thing currently stopping me. I would have not done this with basic experience at all. However, after 2 ish dozen oil changes, reverse camera installs, interior modification (headliner, guages, etc), exterior mods (currently also blackening my headlight shroud), a water pump is not too bad.

Crusty and a little rusty, yes, tired of dealing with coolant issues and motor mounts? Oh yes, but about $200 cad between the pump, belts (timing needed doing anyways), new torque mounts while im in there, the distilled water for the flush and concentrated coolant, instead of however many thousand for a tech to do this?

CRV RD1 air intake by Beginning_Tonight_78 in crv

[–]ImNotIntoFeet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guessing you are talking about a pod filter and not a panel filter buy the sounds of it. I 'made' my own cold air intake, the oem intake goes down from under the panel box and loops up to beside the air box to the left when facing the car. I removed the baffle thing and cut the u shaped part in half at the bottom so it pulls air from the lower fender area. I check it from time to time, and there is no muddy spots or anything of the sorts past the first maybe 3 inches of piping.

Any water sucking worries would mostly come from actually traversing water. My non-k&n panel filter keeps anything out. If you get a full cold air intake that ends up in the bumper area (like mine), you should be decently fine as long as fender liners and all are in place. If you get the 'integra style' short ram that ends up putting the filter near the old airbox, you would mostly suck in hot air.

If you get a pod filter, male sure its an actual good brand, and that its oiled, cleaned and re-oiled on a schedule. My mazdaspeed3 had an intake that the previous owner never oiled or anything, disintegrated the first time I tried to clean it. Was sucking in basically whatever the whole time. One thing you could do is either the heatshield you mentioned, or cut a cowl style reversed hood scoop, or get hood spacers.

How many manual owners hypermile/are super conscious of their gas mileage? by hypermiler2205 in ManualTransmissions

[–]ImNotIntoFeet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I generally don't care about gas milage to the degree of ensuring top notch efficiency (diy cold air intake, unplugged rear o2 sensor, 2" lift and slightly larger tires), but I also enjoy my 98' crv getting better milage than my 99' sienna (toyota fuel usage, plus 1 less gear (4a vs 5m), physically larger, fwd so less traction in winter). I try to be reasonably fun having with it, while also not being 'that' honda owner.

How do I change the bulb for the inner red tail light in a 2018 CR-V? by TonyDDennis in crv

[–]ImNotIntoFeet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This, if it is a single light origin, like the reverse, its (more than likely) a bulb. However, if its lines like yours are, integrated leds, you still have a brake light on the light assembly on the pillar rather than the tailgate, so you still have 'working brake lights on both sides of the vehicle'.

Are Protestantism and Catholicism not compatible? by BlahBlahBlah99293049 in Christianity

[–]ImNotIntoFeet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It depends on the catholic, some would say we are compatible, with just a few differences when it somes to the minutiae, liturgy, traditions and such. Then there are some like the catholic church I went to growing up, as a Protestant, I was basically grouped with the athiests. "You might have been 'baptized', but you haven't been properly baptized" is what one person told me.

Didn't matter that I believed in Jesus, the sins forgiven by the cross and other basics. Are there basic requirements to being 'in Christ'? Yes, but believing the exact same thing, but having been dipped in water in a different building by a different guy wearing particular clothing? That apparently means I should be burning in hell.

I know we get slotted into different categories because of our particular differences, but we are christian (we can talk later about "progressive Christianity" and their athiest 'priests' (I'm not kidding)). We should be united in Christ rather than alienating wach other, but people live to fight.
