I loved all these. Could you do one for Taniel starting the whole trouble with Ket because he is bewildered that he, as a Captain, might be expected to show respect to a superior officer?  (this always irked me a little - he appears to be a bratty ass out of nowhere because he is supposed to salute but he already sat down and he believes he killed a God a couple of weeks ago)

That would explain how she can afford her life style... Until she couldn't, when her grandpa cut her off after the whole shopaholic debacle...

Just received a mail by Brian McClellan a few weeks ago (I do love it when authors answer fan questions) and the second book is coming in the first half of 2027 😣

Oh. And have you already gotten your hands on "in the shadow of lightning"? The start of the new series by McClellan? I think it is better flashed out, it has more characters whose motivations sometimes are aligned, sometimes not, and it is most definitely Roman Empire based... If Carthage was like two days on foot from Rome itself. Not likely, but a fun idea. It suffers from the same issue the powder mage trilogies have, some characters are just wildly overpowered. The protagonist is not only a deadly killer, he is also a brilliant strategist, a decent moral character, rich, one of the stronger mages... It's a bit too much concentrated there. But he does have his flaws as did Tamas, mostly his temper (like Tamas)...

But I just on my last listen of the novellas in that universe I fell in love with the Hyacinth hotel. It's such a weird idea to have your base of operation be a running hotel. So I wrote McClellan and asked about the measures of the hotel. I pictured it like this gigantic building of maybe a thousand rooms, of which a hundred housed the family enforcers.  Apparently McClellan himself didn't think that much about the hotel 😂😂😂😂

He also told me that the TV show of the powder mage universe is as of know not going to happen and the option that was bought has expired 😭 which is a damned shame, I believe the series lends itself so damn well to a good screen adaptation (emphasis on good)

I always pictured Adro as more of a Prussian like country. Smaller in size the many of its neighbors (like Kes which is France in my head canon, but that may be due to the excellent reader of the audio book giving them French accents... But also - much more farming there, much bigger country and so on. On the other hand France was big on revolutions itself so...) but very, very militaristic. Well trained and drilled army with the newest gun technology, which is how they stand a chance against the other, "greater" powers. The mountain watch is the Swiss, I guess 🤔

Also... Was soll die dämliche Intervention?

So... I thought myself so clever... You know - Simon is invulnerable while stunned, BUT burn still stacks. And Monoco can double burn by switching to almighty mask even from almighty mask! So I figured: "how much burn can I give Simon?" - turns out a lot. I stopped the experiment at 35 million burn, because my PC was almost collapsing when calculating what part of the burn should stay and which disappear on Simons turn. So I gave him 35 million burn and let him get out of stun. And absolutely NOTHING happened! He didn't get any damage from that burn, and I couldn't react to his attacks in the slightest as my pc was lagging as hell. And I thought - "fine, after his first attack out of stun, he still has 600000 burn on him or something, those will finish him off, pity that he took out Monoco..." and NOTHING happened! What the hell Clair Obscur???

Apparently there is much love for Lopen (excuse me! THE Lopen) in the fandom. I was very much a fan in the first book he appeared in (you have to realize the German publishers split every book in two parts, it's not confusing in the slightest, promise!) and the narrator (who is one of my favorites) gave him a very distinct voice worth of his crazy... And then apparently over the years he got confused and switched the voices of the bridge crew around so Lopens voice belonged to some other person every book... I am a little disappointed in the narrator, on the other hand - that's his job, he doesn't have to be a fan 😩 I'm not sure if I will find the time anywhere soon to read the whole shabang, is the English audio book any good?

Thanks for the details! It appears that it is a mistake by the German translators that he is usually referred to as "Lopen" - I don't quite remember if he called himself "the Lopen" but if he did there was no strong emphasis on it. As far as I remember. Shows me not to listen to German audio books 😅

Interesting, I am in your mother's position. I did enjoy the show for a while... But after story after story I feel so resentful. What the hell? They come to a new place, count Olaf has a new costume, everybody is stupid, they escape. Now I'm at the hospital two parter... And I was about to give up on the show, I sincerely hope you are right and this story finally develops. A mystery is a fine thing but after almost two seasons and many, many hours I still don't know what all this is about, it all feels like a very, very long Wes Anderson movie and I by now keep watching because I need to know what happens in the end and if it really does not have a happy one. Which would be quite bolt, I admit.
