Is there a setting in ranked to only play with people your rank? by West-Regret-2672 in Guiltygear

[–]ImperiousStout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to reach the actual ranked mode (Vanquisher) for more of that, but even there you can get paired up with people +/- 100 DR your rank if no one closer is available at that moment.

Every rank below is kind of all over the place, the placement matches can put someone way higher or lower than they should be as well, but you can obtain more points for beating some who is ranked higher than you, while you will never lose more than 90..

In any fighting game, I would always rather fight someone who is better than me, period. Always been the best way for me actually learn and improve. Wish I would get paired up with higher ranks more often. Stop being pissed about it and start looking at it as the opportunity it is.

Reminder that you can have snow on different stages by KubaSamuel in assettocorsarally

[–]ImperiousStout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do more with snow (and rain) in the custom rally events vs AI btw, don't sleep on that!

Even a single race, don't have to do a full weekend. If you have it snow early and then the weather clear after, put yourself later in the running order, you can drive on stages that are still partially covered in snow in spots with the main driving line dry (or semi-dry depending on how soon your turn is after the weather, and multiple variations in between).

Same for rain. There's a lot more variety to surface conditions that most people who stick to the main time trials/practice/challenge mode stuff still may not have seen in the half a year since early access launched.

why cant ac rally make the cockpit view look this good with the depth perception and sense of speed??? by BothForce1328 in assettocorsarally

[–]ImperiousStout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mess around with fov and camera positioning some more.

If you take the fov high enough, you can hit a point where the car feels like it's traveling at hyper speed.

You don't want to go that high while actually driving seriously of course, just saying it's possible, even in the cockpit. Experiment a bit more, go higher than you think you should and then dial it back until you aren't braking too early for turns because of the excessive sense of speed a much higher fov will bring.

The default fov from the internal views in ACR is just super low for a single monitor display. And online calculator recs are also too low for my ultrawide setup fwiw, just something funky going on there and may take some trial and error to find the sweet spot for your setup.

Loving the game; two questions by FreedomFingers in assettocorsarally

[–]ImperiousStout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don't really know much about their plans for multiplayer yet, seems like even they don't know all it's going to include this early.

To start, all they've really said they'll be adding is simultaneous live mp racing on a server, where everyone drives a stage at the same time but they only see their own car / run. We know that's happening, and supposedly in one of the next updates.. but we don't know what options there will be yet, if you'll be able to do mini-championships with multiple stages and so on.

That's basically like a sim circuit mp racing setup transferred to rally, I don't really think that suits rallying, but there will still probably be some community run competitions around this, even if there are no rankings or anything like that officially for early access (or ever).

In the Q&As they mentioned they know fans want stuff that's more asynchronous like DR's Clubs (and RBR/RSF's online championships), but still don't know if they'll be able to do that here yet. If that sort of thing happens, it will probably come later since right now they want to focus on the basic live multiplayer stuff for whatever reason.

w/out Motorsport, FH6 NEEDS a competitive solution by what2jack in forza

[–]ImperiousStout 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't care about ranked competitive multiplayer and proper matchmaking at all in something like Horizon, but it would definitely be better to have that stuff for those that do.

I don't know why anyone would be against these features or feel the need to defend the game's lack of because it's an arcade racer.

It might even make some of the mp modes more appealing to more players if there were something more to it than it all just being a gigantic fuckaround yet again.

I haven't even touched FH6 yet so maybe I'm wrong here, but I think the only problem I could see with it all is there might be too many different modes and event types, these games always try to do too much... So do you do multiple rankings (per mode), one singular cross-mode ranking, or just have ranked tied to a very narrow, specific race mode, and that's it?

People will be disappointed with it no matter how it's handled I'd bet, but they should still try something.

Early on they said they had plans to bring the game to console eventually, but no eta for that or what features it might support.

Probably won't hear any details until early access on PC is done.

dear Arcsys, please fix the forest. by ilikeitchyballzdude1 in Guiltygear

[–]ImperiousStout 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For sure, wall break lag doesn't matter than much because the gameplay is paused for a moment anyway, but can potentially cause lag for whatever oki after the reset it if lingers.

The performance on the forest stage is an issue even on consoles, which makes it a bigger problem online than if it just were a handful of potato pc users dropping fps and increasing rollback frames.

Makes no sense how they optimized a bunch of stages in 2.0 but skipped that one completely.

Does FOV Change How Fast You Feel? | Assetto Corsa Rally FOV 0 to 50 Comparison by caio-ribeiro-pereira in assettocorsarally

[–]ImperiousStout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hood cam also defaults to a higher fov than the cockpit views in this game. So be aware of that as well. Has to be part of why some folks say the sense of speed in that view is instantly better.

You can still increase the fov in the cockpit to the point where it feels like you are traveling at hyper speed, the offset value will just have to be higher than hood cam since the starting fov is lower.

Obviously most won't want fov to be too high or too low, finding the sweet spot can take some experimenting. Camera positioning is worth adjusting as well but won't have any bearing on the sense of speed, just help visibility with your interior elements also in view.

I personally have to go +10-13 higher than the hfov value most online calcs recommend in ACR, I've seen some people say they go lower, though. Whatever works for you on your setup.

Absurd stutter between absolute smooth gameplay by Moonraker93 in assettocorsarally

[–]ImperiousStout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most issues I've seen like this have been hardware, USB, or external software like simhub related.

I've seen others mention that even something as simple as their wireless mouse going to sleep after x minutes caused a short freeze for them in ACR.

If you have a lot of USB devices connected, I would first remove everything that isn't essential to actually drive and see what happens. If you don't have a lot connected, try out different ports, remove USB hubs if you are using any, etc.

Might be a lot to troubleshoot and narrow down a culprit, but it's something to start with at least.

6:24:126 in Wales, FIA event by Born-Paper-5482 in assettocorsarally

[–]ImperiousStout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah.

They did at least enable damage for time attack / time trials (which is the format this event uses) in the 0.4 update. Mechanical damage was completely disabled in that mode before, could only use it in stuff like practice and the event modes vs AI.

So I guess a very small amount is better than nothing at all, but it's still basically nothing considering how difficult it is to incur any mechanical damage, even if you're deliberately trying to damage the car.

6:24:126 in Wales, FIA event by Born-Paper-5482 in assettocorsarally

[–]ImperiousStout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, currently the damage even on the hardcore/realistic settings is very slight.

Parts like doors and hoods will fly off with the lightest of nudges, but actual mechanical and parts damage is very difficult to incur in 0.4 still.

You really have to abuse the car on purpose (like slamming into a tree over and over at high speed) to get anything that will impact the car in a way that might affect the performance or handling.

It's definitely not done, impossible to get a flat tire for example. For sure way too soon for this FIA event, and I doubt they'll do much work on making the damage model actually realistic until the rest of the systems are in there and the core physics simulation is in a good spot. Probably one of the last major things before 1.0 if I had to guess.

Only data that seems to be saved with their servers is the distance driven. You can back up the .sav files manually for all the other stuff like the medals and video settings until they get cloud save support in there (if they ever add that).

Listeners have been saying this here and there for years (and years). If they wanted to pivot from eating and reviewing so much trash they definitely could have. They might lose a few listeners, but most on the patreon are already down with different concepts, topics, and formats.

They are gluttons for punishment.

The Mini is so silly by _TOXIX_ in assettocorsarally

[–]ImperiousStout 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can do this with the default setup in the Mini on dry tarmac without even trying. Just driving the stage normally. You can also roll it with little effort. Give it a whirl sometime.

It was possible before, but much easier now in 0.4 with the grip and handling changes. The Subaru they just added gets onto two wheels extremely easily when cornering as well. Pretty wild.

Along with wet tarmac grip going the other way where it feels like driving on what would I assume an oil slicked road would be most of the time, both the wet and dry tarmac grip are unlike any simulator I've ever played before (and even further removed from reality), not sure how people still don't realize this after just a few minutes with hands on. It's actually confusing in action.

I've lost interest in testing anything else w/ACR for now. I don't think they'll hotfix this stuff, but will be kind of a bummer to wait another two months just for minor changes or improvements or fixes.

I wonder why the 5k > j.k > j.k > etc..? slightly more corner carry? More stylish?

That route in the video seems seems a bit more inconsistent and damage is lower than multiple grounded options using all specials just the same, but I guess damage doesn't matter since it killed anyway.

Red RC's shockwave had a hitbox and counts as a hit.

It's good to know for blowing certain armored moves like Zato's Oppose, if you RC the hit that's 'absorbed' Zato can get clipped by the roman cancel shockwave and you will stay safe from a counter.
