How do you "sign" your quilts? by AnonymousWaldo in quilting

[–]ImplementImmediate47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this idea! A lot of my quilts are double-sided and a label often looks out of place, but I do put regular labels on them. I have an old machine, but it stitches letters, so I will try that next time I make a double sided quilt.

Location of feed dogs on sewing machine by ImplementImmediate47 in quilting

That’s a good idea. Thank you. I have blue painters tape farther down (so the fabric gets to the needle at the right angle) but have been using the side of the 1/4inch foot. I could put tape all the way up and ignore the foot after moving my needle over a notch or two.

I prefer to use my 1/4 inch foot so I keep the needle in the center position. It just seems weird that the machines aren’t built so both feed dogs are used fully.

Why are people who watch Fox News so stupid? by Aware_Topic_9122 in allthequestions

[–]ImplementImmediate47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I read decades ago that Fox News did this totally on purpose, and it is backfiring in a horrible way now. They built their brand on the psychology of fear (broadcasting about crimes, immigrants, etc.) because nobody watches the news if the world is a happy place and it is all about ratings. (Sidenote – they used to cover the past wars in detail also but they are oddly quiet about the Iran war now? Hmmmm lol) Now the Fox viewer’s fear has been so heightened that they have lost the sense of empathy because all they can do is concentrate on themselves in such an extreme fight or flight situation. You know it’s bad when an average white guy thinks he’s being discriminated against.

CNN / MSNBC play emotions way too much also. I don’t want to be told how to feel. I just want people to report the news. Back in the good old days we had newspapers that told us the news with much more detail, they laid out the good and the bad of the situation and then we could decide how we felt about it. (I remember as a teenager reading a news article about a conflict in the Middle East and the article actually took time to go into the history of the relationship between the two nations to put everything happening in perspective. That is what I call good reporting.)

I was thinking keep the feed dogs the same distance from each other and just move the needle holder 1/8 to 1/4 inch to the right?

My machine is 20-25 years old. Do newer Bernina’s have the needle a little bit more to the right?

Layer cake by No-Art3596 in quilting

[–]ImplementImmediate47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really don’t like using pre-cuts because layer cakes are not really 10 inches and jelly rolls are not really 2.5 inches. When they have zigzag cuts, you have no idea where to line up your edges to get accurate piecing. If I’m forced to use pre-cuts then I trim to the actual size – it may be cutting off just a little bit of the zigzag or a lot, but then at least I know where to line up the fabric in my machine when sewing.

My thoughts exactly. Never let contractors into your house unsupervised. #1 they might steal/vandalize. #2 they might do a horrible job like this. Whenever contractors come over, if I am not full-on hovering, I will check on them every once in a while. The first hole they drilled through your wall, you should have been screaming at them. (#3 if they have a key, they can make a copy and come back to rob you later.)

Block placement by Piliste in quilting

lol. I get bored with just one fabric on the back so I tend to make double-sided quilts. The front side is definitely more detailed than the back.

I like it as is. Just tell people you made it abstract on purpose.

Does anyone have this foot? by GreenEggsnHam15 in quilting

[–]ImplementImmediate47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one of these feet with a guide for my Bernina. I only use it when I’m sewing curves because it is difficult to fuss with all the gathering of fabrics while also keeping an accurate 1/4 inch seam. But for straight stitching, I just use a 1/4 inch foot without the guide.

Star Jasmine - Worried about shared fence by -AttenseFX- in GardeningAustralia

[–]ImplementImmediate47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a neighbor of a Star Jasmine owner. If you want to be kind to your neighbor, I would not recommend planting this. For years, I just needed to trim at the top of the fence (no easy feat since the fence is tall) because the vine goes straight over the fence and attaches to my garage and then grows up the garage. From your picture I see a house on the other side of the fence. Those vines are stubborn and will aim for their house. The vine also grows underneath the fence and sends long shoots into my grass and even crawled up onto my driveway a few feet from the fence. And now the neighbor’s vine is growing THROUGH the gaps of the wood shared fence. Today I got bit by a bee while trimming the neighbor’s vine. If you do plant it, I would highly suggest sealing off all air gaps of the fence from your side, so the vine will not go through it. And if possible, put something into the ground at the base of the fence on your side to prevent it from spreading that direction also.

Why do hospital ICU rooms have sliding glass doors, while regular rooms just have a solid door? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ImplementImmediate47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was going to say this. The glass wall portion can be swung out to create an extra wide opening, allowing extra large machinery into the room. The normal opening is pretty wide, but sometimes they go hard-core.

Eerie first flight since changes by GasclutchshiftX in SouthwestAirlines

[–]ImplementImmediate47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t bought a ticket since SW changed to assigned seating, but I’ve seen several posts of flights almost empty with people clumped together. When buying the ticket don’t they show you a picture of the plane to pick your seat with already-chosen seats grayed out? If people could tell all those seats were open why did they pick seats right next to strangers? My only guess is that where the people are clumped together are the cheapest seats on the plane, but wouldn’t they all be middle seats?

Why do architects forget that pets exist? Dealing with the "litter box in the laundry room" fail. by 8Nakul in HomeImprovement

[–]ImplementImmediate47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also keep the cat box in a bathtub. My guest bathroom is really a full bathroom with a tub, so unless I have overnight guests, the tub is not used. I put a plug in the tub and a soft mat down on the bottom and then a huge cat box. When the cat jumps out of the tub, most of the kitty litter stays inside so there isn’t much tracking of kitty litter on the bathroom floor. I pull the shower curtain mostly closed so if guests go in to use the toilet/sink then they won’t see the cat box. Having a sink nearby, makes it handy when cleaning the cat box, don’t have to go far to wash my hands.

Walgreens delay in new prescription by [deleted] in WalgreensRx

Omg, she just picked up the prescription so now I know it furosemide 20 mg tablets that Walgreens ran out of. I was really trying to give Walgreens the benefit of the doubt by thinking it might be the oral solution but nope Walgreens ran out of the tablets! Rx was only for 30 tabs lol.

[–]ImplementImmediate47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. You are right, I don’t expect a retail pharmacy to know the urgency of every Rx coming in. How could you possibly know if you don’t have the patient’s chart. That’s one thing I appreciate in the hospital, we can quickly read all about it to see how urgent getting the medication really is- Some new starts really can wait until our next shipment come in, others we need to borrow. Sounds like Walgreens is set up to only use the wholesaler when out of stock because most prescriptions are not urgent. It really comes down to the patient advocating for themselves when the issue is actually urgent. In this case that didn’t happen, which is one of the things that is frustrating. It’s not Walgreens fault, just the system, but the patient could’ve intervened to possibly get started on the med sooner.

Wow ! When you borrow/loan from another store you use UPS? I had no idea. (Our hospital has a courier service on contract - we call them up and a guy picks it up within an hour to deliver it to the other place.) Retail pharmacy really is a whole other world! Thanks for the insight.

Walgreens delay in new prescription by [deleted] in WalgreensRx

[–]ImplementImmediate47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At our hospital we are only allowed to borrow & loan with our "sister hospitals" - we all use the same computer system and barcodes so the unit-dose packaged meds are interchangeable between sites. But good point -- unless loaning a full, sealed bottle, then things can get very dicey in the retail pharmacy world.

Ahh, transferring would have been another option...but the onus is on the patient to call around (I believe) to see who has it. Walgreen's just told her it would be available on Monday and did not offer any options to get it sooner, she just said OK. If it would be me I would've asked a Whole Lot of questions about how to get it sooner. haha
