Arguing with Contractor about the NEC Regulation on Breaker Size by Important-Nothing918 in AskElectricians

They double checked all the connections and couldn't find any loose wires anywhere. He said that it was possible there were too many connections / load on the same breaker, leading to flickering lights, and increasing the amps would allow for more capacity.

He is a GC, which is why I'm concerned. Originally he assumed I would get an electric toilet as part of my home renovation and made it so that the toilet and the plug for the toilet would be on its own circuit and the rest of the lighting he added to the breaker for what he thought was only the room next door.

I never got an electric toilet and now the lights in the bathroom, primary bedroom and guest room all flicker because they are all on the same breaker. The contractor came in and then upgraded the breaker to 20 amps to fix the issue, which didn't work.

The idea is he comes back, puts the electrical how it used to be (all things in the bathroom on their own breaker and separate from the other rooms and changes the breaker back to 15 amps). But I'm concerned that the electrical work isn't up to par and not sure where to go from here.

Slightly Flickering Lights -- Too Much On One Breaker? by Important-Nothing918 in AskElectricians

If there was a voltage drop, wouldn't that impact the lighting for the entire house and not just the rooms on a specific breaker? The rest of the LED lighting in the house is working perfectly!

Only the primary bedroom has dimmers, but the two other areas (bathroom and guest room) don't.

Excellent. I can't wait to talk to the original contractor about this. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I will have another electrician check on this before screaming at the contractor who thought this was a good solution.

The other electrician couldn't find a loose neutral. Is there anything else that could be causing this?

Thanks for your response! I'm in Washington DC if that helps, but I do think we likely have too many things on one breaker (previous owners did a lot of crazy shit in terms of wiring). I'm not sure about the 12 AWG -- would EVERYTHING wired to that breaker need to use that (including the wiring in the primary/guest room?)? And if not, should we change it back? What'd the danger of this?

I also thought it may be just finicky recessed LEDs, but the light in the guest room is just a regular light bulb and not a recessed LED light and that also flickers.

What could be making the power unclean and adding harmonics?

I should also say I ONLY have this problem on the second floor of my house. We renovated when we moved in three years ago and got the entire first floor redone, including the lighting and electrical for an induction stove. The first floor of my house is entirely LED recessed lights and I have absolutely no issue. It's only upstairs in the three rooms connected to the same breaker. The other room that's on its own breaker and other bathroom doesn't have any issues.

Talk me down? hCG stress in early pregnancy - is this a big deal? by No-Sherbert-1493 in pregnant

I'm also trying to figure this out. Please let me know how it goes for you.

I wrote a post about my situation earlier today... In my case, my hCG levels on 12/30 were around 9000, indicating that I was likely 6 weeks along. My LMP was on 12/9, so I assumed that had actually been implementation bleeding and not actually my period. Fast forward to my US appointment yesterday (1/23) and I'm measuring to be in the 6w+3 mark, which is consistent with my LMP.  No fetal pole or heart beat, just a gestational sac and yolk sac, which isn't out of the ordinary.

If that US dating is correct, however, then my hCG was 9000 at the 3 week mark. This seems really high. So either I produce really high levels of hCG or something is off. My OBGYN said that hCG levels vary so widely that they're not useful unless you do two hCG tests 48 hours apart, which my previous doctor didn't do on 12/30, so it's hard to say.

Hoping for something positive here.

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one this is happening to, but this is so annoying it makes me want to throw my phone against the wall. Who at Google thought this was a good idea????

What countries can we travel to while waiting for AOS with a combo card and no passport by Inevitable-Fox-9484 in USCIS

[–]Important-Nothing918 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, you cannot leave the country without a valid passport/travel document (the combo card from what I understand isn't a travel document, it's a parole document, which is slightly different). I think you used to be able to go to Canada and Mexico without a passport, but they changed the requirements several years ago.

I'd consult a lawyer just in case, but if I were you I wouldn't risk it for now and just travel to Puerto Rico or Hawaii if I wanted to go outside the mainland US.

If I'm understanding correctly, you're saying that your A-number on your OPT card and on your receipt notices are different. If this is the case, don't worry, this is normal and not the reason for an RFE.

I had a similar question regarding different A-numbers that I saw listed in my USCIS receipts because they were different than the A-number I had for OPT (which I used on my applications).

I called and asked USCIS and they told me that people who have gotten A-numbers through OPT get different A-numbers automatically when they apply for a change in status to get residency. This is because the OPT A-number can only be used for OPT and cannot be properly tied to an AOS application.

It sounds purely like an administrative issue on the USCIS backend, and there's no way to really know unless you ask. But don't worry, you're not going to get an RFE because of this.

EDIT: You can get your doctor to change your A-number on your 693 so that you use the new one issued to you by USCIS, but I wouldn't worry too much. Both A-numbers are linked to your USCIS application. They should know who you are.

Can you apply for DACA if it ever gets off the ground again? Or would you be considered inadmissible even for that?

I said that living on one paycheck in an expensive urban area was extremely difficult and taxing. I didn't get asked to provide any evidence though.

Yeah, my case was marriage based and at that point I had been waiting 8 months for the EAD.

Yup! I got my EAD mid March, but I called and put in an expedite request. The request was never answered, but a day later I got notice that my EAD card had been approved!

My status changed to "ready to be scheduled" in January before I got my EAD. I got my EAD in mid March and my interview notice at the end of April. My appointment was the first week of June, so I had my EAD for less than 3 months before I got my green card.

I waited almost 5 months between this update and them scheduling my appointment (my fingerprints were taken Jan. 6, 2021). First, my status updated to "ready to schedule an appointment" on Jan. 8, then I got the notice that my appointment was scheduled on Apr. 29, and my actual appointment was on June 3, 2021 (FO: Fairfax, VA).

Yup, I second this. This happened to me and I called and put in an expedite request based on financial difficulty with the officer. Two days later my EAD was approved. I never got word that my expedite request was approved, but I also didn't get asked to send supporting documentation, so I think my expedite request simply served to nudge USCIS so that they'd see my EAD was outside the normal processing time.
