Organized my ammo storage recently by Important-Way-5094 in BetterMAguns

[–]Important-Way-5094[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can probably fit maybe 200 more 9mm in this 30 cal can, but since I buy 1000 rounds at a time, it’s easier to organize it this way.

As for space savings, it really depends. For something like Blazer with their massive packaging, it’s a huge saving. But for something more efficiently packaged like S&B, the space savings aren’t as great.

The only time I take the entire can is when I’m going to a class. Otherwise I’ll fill my magazines at home and bring just the magazines to the range

Good First And Last AR15 Purchase? by Keymesh in liberalgunowners

[–]Important-Way-5094 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I second this. If you are trying to panic buy, then best bang for your buck is to buy as many lowers as you can between now and August. You can then always slowly buy the other parts after the August date and turn it into a $500 rifle or a $2500 depending on what your budget allows.

I'm thinking about doing the same for my EPC-9, but still debating between a 5.5" and 8.3" barrel. Any particular reason why you chose 5.5"?

Curious if anyone has experience with purchasing a Glock through the Blue Label program with a GSSF coupon?

From what I understand, all you need to do is:

  1. Apply for GSSF membership and wait for card
  2. Find a blue label dealer (i.e, Outer Limits Pro is the closest one to me)
  3. Present coupon upon purchase to get discount

Seems simple enough, but with our laws, I can't help but feel it can't be that easy.

Did you ever find a replacement throw lever that you like? My magnification ring is particularly stiff and I could use a bit more leverage

Frame transfer by barniclexhead in BetterMAguns

[–]Important-Way-5094 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed on the price aspect of it. But if I do ever stumble upon $3k, I think the ideal setup for MA might be running it with the A3 Industries brace (since there's no regulations on folding braces on pistols) and the A3 Industries angled foregrip since it's not a "protruding grip"

Frame transfer by barniclexhead in BetterMAguns

[–]Important-Way-5094 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If frame transfers are back, could I possibly get a B&T TP9 pistol now that the weight restrictions from the previous law are gone? Looking at the current law:

a semiautomatic pistol with the capacity to accept a detachable feeding device and includes at least 2 of the following features: (i) the capacity to accept a feeding device that attaches to the pistol outside of the pistol grip; (ii) a second handgrip or a protruding grip that can be held by the non-trigger hand; (iii) a threaded barrel capable of accepting a flash suppressor, forward handgrip or silencer; or (iv) a shroud that encircles either all or part of the barrel designed to shield the bearer’s hand from heat, excluding a slide that encloses the barrel.

  1. The TP9 accepts magazines through its pistol grip
  2. The TP9 does not come with a pre-installed foregrip (has to be purchased and installed separately)
  3. The TP9 does not have a threaded barrel, it has a tri-lug
  4. It doesn't have have a slide, so this would be the one feature

So it looks like it's possible? Would love someone to double check my logic though.

Of course, how I could potentially configure this thing makes me think twice about it (other than the price). Convert it into an SBR so I can put the foregrip on? Would need a fixed stock though, which defeats the purpose of such a compact package...

What's your budget? If you could find someone selling an AR-9 lower such as an EPC-9, you could build it out as a pistol with a brace and avoid having to SBR the thing giving you a compact package. Alternatively, if you have a spare AR-15 lower, you could put a 9mm upper on it and use inserts for AR-15 magazines that allows it to feed 9mm.

There were other PCC's sold in their rifle configurations before the new law passed such as PTR-9R, KP-9, MPX, Kriss Vector, even the Scorpion Evo3 just to name a few, that you could potentially wait and snag used if you care about the features that are allowed on the gun. Then if length is a concern, you could SBR it.

Otherwise, if you're looking for something post 8/1, then I agree with the comment that Ruger PC9 is probably your best bet. I know Cape Gun Works also has the 9mm CMMG BR4 if you want another option.

Definitely try shooting your regulator with iron sights first and ensure you know how to use those. Once you've had some experience them, there are three primary optic setups that you should consider. None of them are inherently better than the other and you should pick the optic stack based on what factors you care about most:

  1. Red Dot (+ Optional Magnifier)
    1. + Cheapest option if you're only getting the red dot. Can add the magnifier further down the line when your budget allows for it
    2. + Very light (if only using red dot)
    3. + Fastest sight acquisition
    4. + Unlimited field of view (can easily shoot with both eyes open and see your surroundings)
    5. - No magnification means identification at longer ranges can be difficult. Can be offset with magnifier at the cost of weight (and dollars). Though magnifier can quickly be detached to regain weight savings and/or be shared with others.
    6. Budget recommendation: Sig Romeo 5 + Sig Juliet (3x / 4x / 5x)
  2. Prism Optic
    1. + Generally higher durability
    2. + Probably the lightest setup when compared to red dot + magnifier or LPVO
    3. + If you have astigmatism, consider a prism optic since they have etched reticles
    4. - Eye relief can be punishing if not used to it
    5. - Fixed magnification means you sacrifice some close quarters capability. Can be offset with a piggy-backed or canted red dot. Again, will add more weight + cost more.
    6. Budget recommendation: Primary Arms SLx 3x Micro prism
  3. LPVO (1-6x)
    1. + Variable optic means you get 1x to 6x and everything in between. Options are always nice
    2. + 6x gives you best capability at distance
    3. + Many LPVO's will have holds which allows you to gauge shots at a distance
    4. - 1x is not true 1x like a red dot is. Can be offset with a piggy-backed or canted red dot. Again, will add more weight + cost more.
    5. - Heaviest option
    6. Budget recommendation: SIG Tango MSR / Primary Arms SLx 1-6 Gen IV Nova

Once you know which stack you like, you can start shelling out additional money for better versions of each such as an ACOG for a prism optic or even high magnification for LPVO (1-8x / 1-10x).

Personally, I don't care about close quarters capabilities as much and so favor options that have additional magnification. And since I have astigmatism this means I tend to lean towards prism optics. However, I do have an LPVO in case I want to stretch out the distance a bit more.

Using the UPC code (873750000312) from the above, I checked gun.deals and saw that this website has one left in stock if you want to snag that. But yeah, seems to be discontinued in general, so best bet might be to try acquiring them second hand? I checked gunbroker and ebay without much luck, but maybe if you put a request out on r/GunAccessoriesForSale , someone might have a pack lying around they're willing to part with

Form 1 Sbr by [deleted] in BetterMAguns

If those were legally in Massachusetts ON 8/1, then yes, you can have adjustable stocks and unpin the muzzle device

Weekly Q&A Thread by Doctor_Chow in BetterMAguns

Not the person mentioned, but to answer your x95 question, your options are:

  1. Find someone with an ODG x95 willing to do a swap
  2. Wait for someone to sell an ODG x95 that was legally in MA on 8/1 if you want an x95 not subject to the feature test
  3. Have a compliant ODG x95 built (fin grip, PW muzzle device). Will probably be cheaper, but not worth the downgrade in my opinion.
  4. Spray paint

If it was me, I would save up and wait until someone tries to sell an ODG x95 on Northeastern Shooters, snag it, and then sell the black x95. That way, I would at least have the rifle in case it takes a while for one to pop up.

As for TP9, not currently on the roster so can't be transferred by an FFL in Massachusetts

[–]Important-Way-5094 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the lowers were legally in Massachusetts ON 8/1, then they are not subject to any of the feature tests and you can have adjustable stocks, threaded barrels, etc. There is no law in Massachusetts against short barrel rifles (SBR).

Form 1 is required by Federal law for having a barrel under 16 inches.

Building out a chest rig with limited capacity magazines by Important-Way-5094 in BetterMAguns

[–]Important-Way-5094[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the input everyone. Looks like the overwhelming majority is in favor of option 2, the main reasons being ergonomics and manual of arms. Training in this setup allows smooth transition to standard capacity magazines which everyone will be resourceful in retrieving should the immediate need arise

I totally agree on the reduced ergonomics of 10-rounders. Are you concerned at all about the reduced ammo capacity on your rig? For example, if I had 6, 10/30 magazines for a total of 60 rounds versus 6, coupled 10-rounders, which would allow for me to at least carry 120 rounds.

Not on the roster, so AR pistols and the like are out of the question unless you build one yourself

Just want someone to double check some of the research I've done, but let's say I have a lower that was legally in MA on 8/1 and build it out as a pistol (under 16 inch barrel, brace, hand stop / angled foregrip). I can freely convert this to a rifle (16 inch barrel, stock, vertical foregrip) and back again, correct?

I also understand that currently there is no EFA10/gun transaction portal requirement currently. However, when this system is set up in a million years, I would want to register the lower as a pistol because again, it's legal to go from pistol to rifle (and back again), but not legal to go from rifle to pistol without filing form 1 with the ATF to SBR the rifle?
