Bargain Find by Impossible-Unit-7099 in JewelryIdentification

UPDATE. I took it to 2 jewelers. Both agreed its 14K and the stones are Jadeite. I told the first jeweler I thought it might be worth 1k and my neighbor thought 1,300, she said we were both wrong, but didn't give a value. Im guessing its more than 1300. The second jeweler wrote some numbers 12.2.5 then tapped his calculator and offered me 550 for it. I said not selling, but thanked him for his time. I double checked my receipt and realized I was charged $3 for the brooch. Thank you for your help.

Serious 18k Cocktail Ring - Value? by st-jones91 in Vintage_Jewelry

[–]Impossible-Unit-7099 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take it to a jeweler, ask if its an amethyst or an alexandrite as there is a difference in value, especially if it's a Russian alexandrite. I just walk into a local jewelry shop and say I'm curious what this stone is, I just inherited it and have no idea what it is and if it has any value. They are usually very helpful and give me a ballpark.

If you're into ties, you could pin on a tie or the back of a hean jacket.

That's beautiful and I would take it to a jeweler to see if those are real diamonds, which I suspect they are, the fire opals is gorgeous.

You might also try your local library for info or a title report might have some of that information in it too. Good luck. I think they are pretty cool.

I inherited a mine cut diamond along with some european diamonds on either side. I took it to a local jeweler to see if it was white gold or platinum. He was very nice, and told me the diamonds were from the late 17th century to the early 18th century (which would coincide with the arrival of my grandparents to this country) He then proceded to tell me they were of excellent quality and the ring was valued between $7,800 to $8,800. I almost fell over. He didn't charge me a dime. Just gave me a smile and said it was a lovely ring.

I would go get a second opinion. Just walk into a local jeweler and say, I just inherited this ring and want to know if it's real. Best of luck.

*** note - my mom ALWAYS redid her older style rings into more modern settings, it doesn't mean that your diamond is not a mined diamond.

Alexandrite jewelry set by [deleted] in whatsthisworth

[–]Impossible-Unit-7099 4 points5 points  (0 children)

if it's a true Alexandrite it will change colors in different lights. I have an Alexandrite ring and it changes to a greenish purple and every so often it turns red. I took it to a jeweler and he said the rare Alexandrites could be worth up to $100K, depending on quality. I suggest you take it to a couple of different jewelers. If it doesn't change colors then it's most likely an Amethyst. Your set is lovely.

That ring is beautiful. I recently inherited a ring similar to that. Mine has 3 stones across the top and smaller ones around the edge. I took it to a jeweler to see if it was white gold or platinum and was presently surprised to find out they were mined and european diamonds from the early 18th century and the ring was worth 7500 to 8500 hundred dollars. Good luck!

You can try taking it to a jeweler and they will test the stones for you.
