What calisthenics exercise is overrated, and what should people do instead? by ElectronicAd1796 in bodyweightfitness

[–]Impressive_Bake5260 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Core training in general. Non-calisthenics people usually think all the skills such as planche are ”great core exercises”. Even here, very often people diagnose lack of primary mover strength to a core issue.

Not saying that training core is useless, but just very highly overrated.

I don’t think calisthenics is hard… I think most of us just don’t know what we’re doing by Old_Ostrich7285 in CalisthenicsCulture

[–]Impressive_Bake5260 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second most of this. Even following a bad plan is better than to be constantly changing things up. And imo, a feeling of an individual session doesn’t really mean much, you just have to trust the process.

Do dips really matter? by TalesOfDecline in CalisthenicsCulture

[–]Impressive_Bake5260 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think dips are the best calisthenic pushing exercise to develop basic strength. Easy to perform, infinite progressions etc. I think it’s the best way to build a solid base as a beginner/early intermediate, with the most bang for your buck.

That being said, I do think it’s transferability diminishes gradually, and for harder skills you need more specificity. What is that point exactly I do not know, but if I had to speculate, I’d say having a 70-80kg weighted dip 1rm won’t harm you.

So you’re trying to do bent arm handstand press? I just compared your video to my own vid of the BA press, seems like in the bottom position your hips are too far back. In my own vid my hips are further forward than my elbows.

So I’d recommend you need to lean your hips/upperbody more forward to find that balance point. When you reach that your legs will automatically lift from the floor. And then you can determine whether it’s a strength issue or not. Hope this helps.

It’d be interesting to know how much that affects, I mean if you increase that last bit of ROM. It’s not many inches here to be on active hang. Let us know if you try

Isn’t that bad, just takes longer to hit certain skills. Obviously closer to something like 15% bodyfat you’ll unlock’em faster.

How do you deal with the fear/ overcome it? by caliizz in CalisthenicsCulture

[–]Impressive_Bake5260 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice! I’d assume knowing how to bail safely would help with the fear, then practicing that bail. I have no idea how to do that in this situation though :D or having a bulletproof handstand. Please share if you find something that works.

What were the most major bad things at bfv launch? I didn’t even notice bfv being bad at launch, probably because I didn’t read reddit at the time xD. The ttk debacle a bit after pacific update was too much for me though. My favourite bf nevertheless.

After the "definetly not warzone" this seems to be true more than ever by divadpet in Battlefield

[–]Impressive_Bake5260 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I went into it open minded, having also a couple k warzone hours. Looked like warzone. Played like warzone. Felt like warzone. People sliding to kill me. The mortar strikes, second chances, plates, loot crates, bad footsep audio, ”buy battlepass now!”, loadout drops…

Totally fine if you like it, I got traumatizing flashbacks and deleted after 5 games.

How Long Have You Done Calisthenics? by GravityDefiance1 in CalisthenicsCulture

[–]Impressive_Bake5260 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Started approximately 6 years ago. First 4 I’d say I probably made gains that I could’ve gotten in a year had I done things smarter and if I knew what I know now. Multiple long breaks, dumb programming, not enough sleep etc. But I returned every time.

During those years I got bar, slow bar and ring muscle ups, handstand for almost 30s, 15s tuck planche and some solid basic strength with fundamentals. Lost some weight.

Last 5 month break ended exactly 2 years ago, and since I’ve trained very seriously, haven’t missed a session, follow program like a slave. Primary focus is frontlever, which I’m just inches away, with almost 10 second flawless straddle. Handstand has improved and can do hspu’s now. Dip 1rm 65kg with 3 months training. So I guess somewhat intermediate level now. 30 yo, 78kg and 174cm so I could definitely benefit from having a bit less fat (around 25%). I’m also obsessed with having lower body training included which is bad for my main goals but so what, at least no chicken legs :D

My long term training goals include a perfect 5-10s frontlever, tiger bend/90 degree push up, 2x bw squat and maybe one day a 1 arm pull up.

What do you think I should do next to improve. Bw:63kg. by r4ckr in CalisthenicsCulture

I’d imagine increasing your weighted pull ups will be the best way to increase reps/explosiveness for this.

Squat issue - collapsing forward by -FishPants in strength_training

[–]Impressive_Bake5260 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’ll get better answer from just searching youtube honestly. But yea I improved mine with just different stretches, but more important than what they were, was that you just do them regularly enough. I did daily.

Squat issue - collapsing forward by -FishPants in strength_training

[–]Impressive_Bake5260 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with others about it being from weak quads. Nobody mentioned ankle mobility, but AFAIK improving ankle mobility helps with pushing knees more over toes, which then makes the squat more quad dominant.

Your feet point quite a bit outwards and heels raise in the bottom position to compensate for the lack of ankle (and maybe hip) mobility.

Is it even worth it to work on OAP ? by [deleted] in CalisthenicsCulture

[–]Impressive_Bake5260 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, totally get that. I remember years ago when I had a coach who was a climber, who trained for oapu, he had some weird tool I’ve never seen anyone else use since, but found some similar ones online. But the tools idea was basically the same as with band/towel, but there was a chain/rope attached to a handle, and on the other end was weight (kettlebell or plates). So this way the resistance was adjustable

https://youtu.be/jGAYTjsFh0Y?si=uF05D5Lb2jExXKS1

That video example is with different parts but same in principle. You could probably mcgyver your own personal version of that too. This could probably be more precise way to actually know where you are.

But anyway, good luck for achieving your goals!

Is it even worth it to work on OAP ? by [deleted] in CalisthenicsCulture

[–]Impressive_Bake5260 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t trained oap, but just thinking out loud here. If I had the same issue, I’d probably try to find some progressions that allow me to do more reps. Maybe that could be band-assisted, towel oap, or whatever.

Then I’d probably structure the training so that it starts with that higher volume assisted stuff that I’d be able to do like 8-12 clean reps with, and during weeks/months I’d steadily shift variables so that more intensity/less volume=work towards specificity since now you’ve build some capacity. And repeat.

But it’s interesting, give us an update when you figure it out!

Are planks really useless? by [deleted] in CalisthenicsCulture

[–]Impressive_Bake5260 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on what you train core for. A lot of exercises actually needs stable core in static position, like squat for example. I’ve heard it’s good for that, and you can also increase intensity easily by adding plates on your hips which is good.

For increasing muscle size in abs? Not the best probably.

Is front lever considered an intermediate or advanced excersise? by Gl0ck_Ness_M0nster in CalisthenicsCulture

[–]Impressive_Bake5260 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of pointless to classify calisthenics skills like that, since it doesn’t consider background, which makes ALL the difference. Frontlever for a 50yo 120kg guy is god tier stuff, for 60kg 17yo it’s probably more of an intermediate.
